I found this while CRH and thought it may have missed a few steps at the mint. Any ideas? Thanks!

Interesting. That would remove the top layer exposing only the copper?

If the right acid were used. Some types remove just the copper, and others remove the silver. Which one, I don't know. But they have been doing this for years now, mainly on cents to reduce them to dime size to use in vending machines. Back in the 50-60's they would take a cent and make it dime sized and then get a soda for ten cents. On the 7oz bottles you could get one for 7 cents. Then you would get Three Cents back in change and you had money to make more "Pop Money."
