I know I haven't got great eyes, but it looks like it might be a strike through wire? (A small loop). Is there any depression into the coin?

My eyes are not great either, I was thinking it was a high spot. But wire ring (or other crud) in the die makes sense too, definitely a lot going on with that coin.  hehe, I was even wondering if someone thought he'd look better with a mustache  |

Very cool Multi Error 1/2d AA.  The "Double nose" is Raised. As you can see a Shadow ring along the edge, with the raised portion showing in the Light.  A Chipped "Die Filled" Cud I think.  jpl.. Edited by jpl

Looking at it from all angels under the 10x loupe,it looks like a slightly raised mass rather than an indent Uni.
I was thinking more along the lines of jpl's suggestion,maybe a chip out of the a very late state die.
hehe, I was even wondering if someone thought he'd look better with a mustache.
Funny you should say that,my mrs said something along the lines of ,looks a bit like Hitler at a quick glimpse.

I bid on that coin! (and you sniped it away)  I think that the bit under the nose is dried residue. When a liquid dries and contains material you can get that effect. Still a nice coin. |

Sorry Nealeffendi,i had a feeling it was someone that knew what they were doing that was the other bidder,i only had a bid a few dollars higher than yours too.
So are you saying it could be lacquer/varnish they used to coat the coins with ?

Its all good that it went to a nice home. I had considered bidding higher but that defect in the metal at geOr might be a problem in getting it slabbed. Are you thinking of slabbing it? The reverse is a stunner and a no dot to boot.
Not laquer or anything nasty, perhaps just a drop of coffee or any other beverage that contains sediments or a drop of dirty water could do this. It looks like it is only on the surface anyways

Slabbing,meh maybe one day lol,when I can stop buying coins long enough to save the money.
It is a shame about that obverse flaw,really nice coin in hand.
