Hi,

Found this 1984 $1 in my change and would like the opinion of forum members. It has a big metal blob on the top which I first thought was some solder or something but under magnification it has some gold colour and I thought it may be a large Cud.

Even though the coin, being 1984 ,is a bit beat up the obverse shows unusual wear on two sides where the rim is flat - the reverse rim is intact. Opinions appreciated.

Hi Cally,It's definitely a post mint add on, it looks silver in colour ? if that is the case then i'd suggest it is a blob of silver solder.
Someone may have been trying to make a piece of jewelery out of it,or maybe they were just bored lol.

Yes appleangel07,can definitely see some silver mixed in the gold colour on the blob.

Maybe the flattened sides on the obverse comes from some vice damage. The position of the blob being above the Queens head supports your suggestion that someone may have tried to make a pendant or the like.

Just thought it unusual that it had circulated in this condition for so long.

Thanks for the reply.
