Angel the finders are paying taxes. Theyre not being released publicly but the irs is well aware of who they are. Theres no question about that. Its why theyre immediately being sold to make them enough to pay their bill.

Its also why the governments not going to take them. Theres no past history of going after them and theyd rather get the several million in taxes.

Ok that makes sense then. It just always seems they aren't telling anyone. I found that hard to believe.

Yea the circle of people that know is small. PCGS and Amazon (which is the auction house I believe) are probably the only ones that know besides their agent. There was definitely a good amount of paper work to be filled out before an auction was set up ready to go. It wouldnt even surprise me if they all signed confidentiality agreements protecting the finders identity as well, but as soon as the find was made public the IRS and California was going to look into it and find out who it was regardless of whether or not they told them.

I read in my online express version of Numismatic News that the sale of the Saddle Ridge gold coins will happen in May. No specific date was mentioned--it will likely be known sometime in April.

Kagin said, "The cheapest will be $2,500." The 1866-S No Motto and the other rarities will be sold on Kagin's site at the same time as the Amazon offerings.

200 of the coins were cleaned by the finders, they were slabbed but not graded.

Well I won't be at these prices, but my buddy might pick one up, if he does, I'll post a photo! He usually only buys current mint gold coins.

Anyone bite yet? I see the cheapest is around 2600. These are graded as "PCGS 92 Cleaned", For about 3300 you can get an XF45, and at 3500 you can get an AU50.

THere's only 1400 coins or less in all. If you were to "invest" with plans to hold for 5-20 years, where would you put your money?

When are people going to learn to keep their mouths quiet when they find something of value. That way no taxes, no finder's fee to be paid.

Sell off a few from time to time and pocket the money.

People never learn.

Leo there was a member on here that acquired a coin from this hoard. IIRC, it was an 1889-S Double Eagle graded MS-63 though it looked like a 64.

Cleaned coins can be had for less than $2,600 sure they won't be from the hoard. The graded examples are priced approximately 2 times what non hoard coins are priced at.

I'm not trying to discourage you from purchasing one, only letting you know what I and others noticed with this offering.

most of what remains (180 coins or almost an 88% sell through) seems to be in various AU grades; I counted 30 MS and 4 damaged...

Anyone remember the original population distribution?
