Hi everyone !
This summer in August I leave Belgium (Western Europe) for a visit to the US East coast for several weeks. Also I shall visit philadelphia. During WWII were the Belgium 2 francs coins of 1944 strucked in the Mint there. I would like to visit that Minthouse.
My question is: Can you see the complete minting proces ? I collect die break and other deviations (of the belgian coins), but a view on the minting proces would be a great experience.
Is it recommend ?
Thanks for any response.
gr, Aernout

Here's the tour information from the US Mint's website http://www.usmint.gov/mint_tours/?a...philadelphiaAccording to that, you'll be able to see the coin operations from 40 feet above the factory floor. I visited the Denver Mint a decade ago, and enjoyed seeing the Mint there. There were a lot of cool things on display. -MV

We visited in 2012 after going to the Worlds Fair of Money. Quote: you'll be able to see the coin operations from 40 feet above the factory floor.
You can and it is a neat, "on your own tour." Quote: Can you see the complete minting proces ? Not that we were aware of. You can see all the work areas where the process takes place. Depending upon the day, week or month they have their own schedule. When we went they where stamping medals and punching cents. A well spent visit. A word of advice, Philly can be very hot and humid in August. Have a lot of water to drink.

I grew up on the east coast, and we went to the P mint all the time. The hardest part for me was seeing them destroy all the old currency! Nooo!

Another word of advise. You can not take in a camera or any device that will take photos.

Stop here afterwards. Best steak sandwich in Philly. Much better than Pat's or Gino's. It's a bit of a walk from the mint but worth it. From the mint entrance, walk down 5th st until South st and go left on South. It will be a block up. Line can be long on weekends.

I was at the Philly Mint during the CCF coin show. It was an awesome tour! I had my phone camera and took plenty of pictures. Nobody told me anything.

Welcome! Unfortunately, the current Philadelphia Mint building dates from 1969. If you want to visit the mint where your Belgian WWII coins were struck, you need to go a little farther north and west, to this building at 1700 Spring Garden Street, which is now part of the Community College of Philadelphia:

It's definitely a cool experience! I visited the Mint in 2010 and was also able to get the latest America the Beautiful Quarters. And who doesn't love a coin gift shop?

Message me before you leave. I live in Philadelphia; perhaps we could talk a bit over a cold beverage.

I went at age 11, and wasn't really into collecting then. It would be fun to see the mint again.
