They don't call it Gold County for nothing, apparently. What an amazing find.

Good thing they are staying anonymous although I bet it is for legal reasons! I'm sure if their identities got out the descendant's of the previous property owners would be lawyering up to get their share.

"selling some of the coins through Amazon" I've seen coins for sale on Amazon but ones of this magnitude I would think that they do better on a site that coin collectors frequent. A cool find that many dream of. -MV

With the media attention they're getting, they easily could have hired someone to create a website for them to sell these coins on and skipped the extra Amazon fees.

I think I have a newfound respect for the occasional rusty can poking itself out of the ground.

"Don't be above bending over to check on a rusty can," More, and better pics, at: http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/artic...hoto-5937962"The oddest of the bunch are an 1866 $20 coin minted in San Francisco without the words "In God We Trust," on the back - the words were added to those coins, called "Double Eagles," later that year - and an 1849 $5 coin struck in the short-lived Dahlonega, Ga., mint."

Very cool find! Wish I had that kind of luck.
Kind of curious how they determined that it wasn't from a robbery or something along those lines. Also curious if there will be any legal action on this but I am guessing that since they have waited so long to reveal this that any legal issues have been cleared up.

Wonder if that website is actually official... Someone could have just created it to send people to the Amazon listing using their referral id. Not sure what Amazon pays affiliates but if its around 2% of the price, that's some decent money as well. Edit: Checked the domain registry, says it was registered by someone in Australia. So it looks like it isn't the official website. Edit 2: Nevermind, looks like they have privacy on their registry information so can't tell if it's really theirs or not.

WOW! What a find, I posted a story similar to this in the metal decking forum here on CCF sometime ago, but the hoard I was involved with was nowhere near the size of this, this is INCREDIBLE!!
Thanks for the share. A wonderful story to read. And I'm also glad the couple went to Donald Kagin, he is the right guy for handling a hoard like this! I still miss his father Art, who was one of my main mentors in the coin business world as I started out.
