- Misguiding photos on auctions, - the 'not only if old, than valuable, but also if no longer legal tender, than valuable' way of thinking, - speculative 'probe' coins that are being sold as genuine (Euro) ... Things like that :)

Well, honestly I do call them pennies and I do like them shiny so I confess to this I am guilty! One of my pet peeves are when people use a lot of symbols referring to a coin and I have to stop and figure out what they mean. ie, LWC. The older I get the harder I have to push to think. I mentioned in a recent post that my biggest pet peeve are sellers who hurt the hobby by dishonesty and greed, who use their knowledge to bully and intimidate those new to the hobby and those who might be a bit slower. Not everyone has a high intelligence. We should all try and be kind and patient about teaching and learning.

Lily's comment above causes me to retract my earlier pet peeve. Along the lines of what she says, my single biggest gripe and demotivator in this hobby are the dealers that won't give time and attention to the younger generation or those outside their 'good old boys club'. I'm in my mid-30s and have collecting for literally the majority of my life; literally been going to shops and shows for 20 years of my 33 years of life. I'm not claiming to be anyone special financially or know any everything. But I do expect to be given fair attention and kindness and a positive attitude when I have questions about coins they claim to be selling. The number of shops and booths I've stood at and been ignored because I was "too young" or "not rich enough" is a depressing statistic. Or the number of times the seller has eventually looked up with annoyance because I dared to bother him. It sucks when I have to walk away empty handed when I was otherwise wanting to buy because the seller wouldn't give even 3-5 minutes for the sale to happen.

Looks like we could just about start a revolution here! I guess a lot of the changes to fair practices and just basic human respect start with those of us who buy. If they treat you bad don't buy from them. There is a lot of folks here already doing that by pointing out bad sellers on ebay. Maybe it's time for a 'local' revolution. You know when local dealers, dealers at shows, etc., treat you or someone else like crap let the whole CCFC people know about it, don't buy coins from them and maybe if you dare let them know that. And I too have had the same response when at coin shows. Like I'm not really a serious collector and I am not worth there time. Ugh! Thanks for the support Collects82 and domain 555!

I'm Canadian, and here in Canada 50 cent pieces are minted for circulation but are not mass produced. I hate it when people say we had 50 cent pieces - or half dollars - a long time ago.

Maybe not my biggest peeve, but foreign pricing I always think coin prices in SEK and not Euros, USD or anything else. Since I'm constantly scanning for good deals and low prices, a coin priced at €4 will make me raise an eyebrow, even if I know the prices are set in more valuable currencies.

Some more peeveBay rants: 1. When sellers use a scanner to obtain images for their auction, but don't know how to isolate or crop-out the coin area. The result is an image of the entire white lid of the scanner with a tiny circular object in one corner. 2. Sellers of coins and tokens who only bother to provide an image of one side of an item, even though ebay allows for multiple images to be added free of charge. This is especially annoying with Encased Cents, where the seller only provides an image of the generic side of the token and not the side with the merchant's name. 3. Sellers throwing loose coin(s) into a standard letter envelope, which causes the coins to tear a hole through the paper and end up on the floor of some post office. Also, I warn sellers all the time not to use regular envelopes to ship wooden nickels, but they do so anyway and the tokens always end up broken to pieces because of the sorting machines at the post office. 4. When you excitedly open that package you've been waiting for and are immediately hit with the overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke. 5. The sellers who take advantage of ebay's "keep active until it sells" permanent-style listings in order to post junk at unreasonable prices. This junk then litters my regular search results forever. 6. How ebay is constantly changing the default settings on how many items I want to scroll through on a page. Of course, for convenience, I want to scroll down the maximum number of items without visiting multiple pages. But sure enough, if I don't check the setting each time, ebay will change my search results to 25 items per page. 7. How Paypal always defaults to a bank account for payment and makes you jump through hoops in order to pay with a credit card. It seems like the company is trying to trick you multiple times into paying via a bank account (thus avoiding credit card fees).

Ok.My Turn 1-To the YN's of the thread. We older(much older )"newbs" often get the same treatment from dealer's.I've been collecting for only 18 yrs and often get the same treatment you have described .you aint the only ones. 2-To my fellow members from the UK ,the RM and RCM are issuing to much "fluff". Australia should also be included. Some "fluff"? sure,but...? And finally not a peeve but about the Dealer's,we can only imagine the amount of patience it must take to sit at a LCS for hours, not make any sales(present market, internet) and try to answer the inane questions(to them) they get , everyone has those days so just say thanks , smile and go on. Thinking this way will make the outing for yourself (myself included) much more enjoyable!

When an ebay seller has out of focus photos taken from the other side of the room on a coin listing and its a rare coin you've been looking for and all of the photos in their other listings are in focus closeups.Deep down you know that if you bid you're going to do your dough but you bid anyway

Re the original peeve - I actually do have a British 1 cent. It was a pattern for their decimal coinage (which happened in 1970). A little before its time: undated but minted in 1859 (Peck reference 2004).
