I find myself agreeing with pretty much all of the sentiments expressed here about the mint and it's latest offerings. It's a shame that what was once an exciting hobby has been almost ruined by the thoughtless, greedy and incompetent decision makers at the RCM. Am I being too harsh? Possibly, but when I think about it again, I think not...

There is a total of 22 coins released for April. And there is 8 more months go in 2014. At this rate, we are looking at more than 200 coins from the Mint. The amount of product they are pumping out is ridiculous. Why do we need 5 Nanaboozhoo coins? I have no clue who he is. On top of that we have a spring canopy coin that look similar to last years coin. And we have a Pope John coin in an age where fewer and fewer attend church. BTW, why is the Pope on a Canadian coin anyway? The only coin I bought was the glass frog. Nothing else interests me.

It starts with mobility rights as guaranteed by the charter of rights and freedoms, section 6.(1).

Next time you cross into the US without your passport or enhanced drivers licence, make sure you aggressively assert your Charter rights. GL. I agree MoneyPenny. Never heard of Nanaboozhoo either. Though I appreciate the free education via the Mint's coins, I don't know why we need so many of them. Ditto the Pope. But I've come to accept their shotgun approach to coin production. If it grows the hobby (I have doubts that it will) by appealing to a broader audience, then I guess that is a good thing.

For myself...I like the new canopy release...I was never that struck on the first one...like so many others were...but bought into the series anyway..trees in full leaf or bare like the 2nd release are cool...some of my favorite trees in my area look even more beautiful with out leaves...so all in all I'm not disappointed with this series...

Well if it has been confirmed the neat looking box is indeed cardboard then I guess I will pass on this release. I saw the 1/2 kilo coin and had some interest, but I'm unsure I can justify the price. There are a lot of full kilo coins out with just as fabulous a designs. I guess the mintage does come into play here but I'm still not fully sold on it.
It's a shame at $110 a coin for 7 coins you would think they would splurge a little. Look at the group of 7 at $90 a coin.

Too many people order sets just to get boxes then cancelling after getting them maybe that is why they switched to cardboard.

You can cross many international borders including Canada/USA without having a national passport or enhanced drivers license. By holding a world citizen passport, and again using your rights as described in section (6).1 of the charter of rights and freedoms, as well as Article 13(2) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, you can easily enter the United States. The mandate for the WORLD PASSPORT is Article 13(2) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states "Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country." This passport, which clearly you have not heard of, is recognized by over 150 countries yet issued by none. It is 100% legal and legitimate. "Aggressively asserting your rights" as you put it is not recommended, nor is it required once you have produced your World passport to the customs officer.

I agree that the newest maple canopy is the nicest yet. Too bad they didn't start the series with that one, and have 3 others for each remaining season.

At what point is a coin no longer really a coin? I'd say when it weighs 500 or 1000 grams. These "coins" seem to me to be just highly overpriced bullion. I can't imagine displaying one of them with my other coins, that's for sure.

The first coin in the series looks good to me. If their worried about people canceling the sub offer the case at the 4th coin or 5th coin. I'm sure by then they would have recoup their wholesale cost of the case. I suspect after the 2nd or third coin their already in the green. ( No sorry I don't have any facts to back up my hunch )

Lol. You don't need a passport but you need a world passport?
Regardless, neither Canada nor the USA recognize "World Passports".
I guess we should get back to coins eh?

While I do feel Nanaboozhoo just needed one coin, having the Pope on a Canadian coin isn't all that bad. I'm sure the Pope coin will sell just as much as the Nanaboozhoo one will. In fact when you take into account the International markets, I'm sure the Pope coin will outsell the Nanaboozhoo one.

That's strange, because I used one at the peace bridge to enter into New York state just over a year ago, with no problem. My sister in law is a customs officer and she says they're used a few times a year at the location she works at. I agree, back to coins since unless you're sitting next to me next time I go, this debate is going no where.
