You'll have to excuse my ignorance but I'm fairly new at this - how can you tell that these are fakes?

You can just tell. The Queen's face looks weird. The coin's finish is weird, almost reverse proofish. When I saw it, I immediately knew it was fake. Is it odd that I sort of want to buy one to put in my collection just so I have a counterfeit to display against my real ones?

The only way to know for sure if you are in any way doubtful, is to personally weigh them, and test for comparative ring tone, before you make a bid. THAT is almost certain NOT to happen!
Bit harder to report him, unless you are almost 100% certain that the seller is a scammer. In the worst case if you are wrong, you could end up with legal troubles, if he wants to get REALLY nasty. Sometimes the most deceitful scammers with excellent fakes are also the most aggressive to defend themselves, reasoning that attack against you is better than defense.
It is usually much easier to simply find another seller, or buy direct from a bullion dealer with a long established reputation.

As a rule of thumb, I would never buy coins which have been touched without gloves. It's not very smart of the seller to have pics of holding the coins with your bare hands - this will leave fingerprints which you'll never get rid off again. And you are right, these are definitely fakes - you can tell by comparing to a genuine 2011 SML: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-Silver...em258c01d982

His negative feedback he received was because of a fake coin

He has great feedback. I am surprise he would throw it all away for a few extra sales. The maples look pretty good. Aside from the reverse proof finish it's hard to tell. Could it be his camera? Or if they are fake he probably doesn't know. He's got 6 listed and has 3 sold in his history. To throw away a 3815 rating for $200 doesn't add up. I think you should message him to let him know he might be selling potential fakes.

You can tell these are fakes: - the maple leaf veins are too pronounced - the gap between 9999 and fine and pur on either side is too small Just compare to the standard SML from the listing I mentioned above.

Scary... pretty nice finish... would have thought the reverse proof was some kind of error... Another way to tell for sure would be to explore some of the other items the seller has posted and compare them to the real deal...
