While going through a box today hunting I found another 1971D Kennedy half that was struck on quarter stock.

After finding my first 2 I kept asking myself while going through every box I wonder if there is another one and how will I tell as I don't recall exactly why I set the first 2 aside back when other than their slightly off ring to them.

Well after finding this one today I can say that it has a distinctive ring like a silver does compared to the other odd sounding clads.

Found this one on ebay the other day

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1963-Frankl...p=true&rt=nc

The only other 1971D I have found was an MS60 from Heritage back in 2006 which sold for ~$230.

So is the Franklin worth twice the price due to rarity, silver, MS63 grade, or ?

Here's an article from 2009 where another 1971-D half like yours was found http://numismaster.com/ta/numis/Art...ticleId=6003

Without a precise weight, there's no way to be certain that the Franklin half was struck on quarter stock. The grading services have a bad habit of confusing rolled-thin errors with wrong stock errors. Furthermore, they seldom compare the coin's weight to the expected weight of a wrong stock error. Very interesting Mike. That is really good stuff to know, especially the formula for calculating the anticipated weight.

Are the formulas for the weight of coins struck on wrong stock listed anywhere? Web rot seems to have taken the page referenced above.

Thank you.
