I've had this coin for as long as I can remember. You could say that it's THE coin that first got me into collecting!

Unfortunately, back then as a young boy, I thought it would look nicer if all that tarnish was gone, so (to my shame now) I CLEANED IT. With a pencil eraser. several times.

It has since retoned to some extent, but as you can see, the hairlines remain! Knowing now how uncommon it is to find nice problem-free barbers, I hate myself for it, but what's done is done. At least it's just a common date!

Here she is:

AH YES, the eraser story.
This was more common years ago, and I HOPE it is not being done today.
Please accept an Internet hug - "There, there now, it is not the end of the world."
We ALL did stupid things in the past. Mine was cleaning coins with baking soda, a common practice way back when. Left scratches which remain to this day.

Domine, domine, Kefiroth.
Go and sin no more.

And I would say VF-20 details.

Fine details

Totally agree, mathewvincent, we all make dumb mistakes, mine was soaking copper coins in vinegar to make them 'clean'. I still have one of them too, a 1939 Queens visit to canada token passed down from my grandfather. Which I believe he said he got in 1939 at school. O Well you know what they say, 'Experience is the best teacher'.

This looks solid VF details to me, maybe vf-25. I've seen much worse cleaning jobs.

Priceless, and who cares what the grade is?

I would kill to have the coin which "started it all" for me, but it's been gone for nearly half a century and I'd never know it if I saw it.
