barryg Pillar of the Community United States 5863 Posts	Posted 03/19/2014 08:44 am I posted my completed collection of small size Series 1928 Gold Certificates in this thread. I thought it would be fun to post my collection of Series 1928 Federal Reserve Notes, which I also recently "completed." I say "completed" since don't have every letter variety (1928, 1928A, 1928B, etc.) and I don't have anything over $100. Anybody know why the color of the treasury seal varied between the different denominations? I really love the lime green seal on the $10 note. Dave L Valued Member United States 484 Posts	Posted 03/19/2014 09:46 am Nice set Barry G! Afaik, the inking differences were what they had on hand at the time of the individual printing. They didn't have the QC controls as tight back then on the inks I guess. Report this Post to the Staff

There is discussion over on the Collectors Universe forum of pinpointing the serial number ranges for the various seal color types based on BEP records that one of the members has obtained. I just always assumed that different series had different shades of green. Strangely enough, I happened to pick up a Series 1934 $50 Federal Reserve Note at the bank today (along with a nice Series 1950B $100 Federal Reserve Note), and the green seal is a different shade of green from the example that I already had in my collection. It's a lot more circulated, however, and now I'm wondering whether the ink ever changes color over time due to exposure to the elements? Report this Post to the Staff
