As long as the box is sealed you can submit them for FS whenever even years later, its just that with the quarterly special you get the special baseball label you wouldnt get if you waited for that to end. Once the special is over you have to bulk submit for a special design label which means 100 coins or more

Ok (Light bulb over head starts to come on.) Lets see if I've got this right (based on PCGS info http://www.pcgs.com/gradinglist.html ) If submitting 10 BBHOF Proof Silver $ Modern service: $16 per coin = $160 total First strike Designation: $18 per coin = 180 total Handling Fee: $8 per submission = $8 total Return Shipping: $24.95 per submission = $24.95 total Grand Total = $372.95 (or 37.30 per coin)

That's correct The quarterly special price is 39 though for the special label with a slightly faster estimated turn around.

So the BBHOF / FS label would be $39 instead. The $18 FS would not have the pretty label, but would say First Strike?
Assuming this is the case then total price = $582.95 or $58.30 per coin. . . all of this before the membership fees.
TY for all of the help basebal21

Correct it would have fs but not the design. It's only 39 plus the shipping the 8 dollar fee. Spread over 10 coins 39 plus about 3.30 a coin, about 43 a coin.
If you don't have a membership and are getting one the 199 is the best deal and save the 8 free for classic coins submitted under the regular secure plus. The membership ends up being free and you still save a lot on grading. Secure plus gets the most bang for your buck with them but the normal is still a savings.

Based on VERY limited data, it looks like the Baltimore label FS holds some value over the non-Baltimore FS. for 70 silver dollars (avg both types as very limited data) Baltimore FS sold for 27.7% higher & 69 silver dollars (avg both types) sold for 45% higher. - - - would need MUCH bigger sample.
(Baltimore Avg of prior 5 MS70 = 464, avg 6 prior PF70 = 510. Non-Baltimore Avg of 1 MS70 = 401, Avg 2 PF70 = 360.)
VERY non scientific, but will be curious to see what happens in the future.

Baltimore First Pitch (PCGS) and Opening Day (NGC) command a substantial premium for the Au. A PF 70 (30% of around 200) is selling for around $7k on ebay. However, it appears that the big boys have thousands of AU on hand that they will flood the market shortly after they have the coins graded.

Agree, I was trying to do a comparison of Baltimore FS to non-Baltimore FS. Either one should continue to hold a premium over raw.

I've never got a coin graded, so would I be stupid not to get these graded with the first strike label? I know people feel differently about slab bed coins "buy the coin not the label". I got a couple of sets of each so should I do one set or all? Thanks for the opinions.

I suspect the answer is either Yes or No, with a bunch of It Depends in the middle! lol IMO (& I am Very new, so have a large grain of salt ready) it depends if you plan to sell them. If yes then I probably would as I think the future premium the label brings will increase the future potential profit. (Admittedly this is an unknown, but based on current demand I think likely.) If you don't plan on selling but like the look and/or safety a slab brings (at the price), or knowing what an impartial 3rd party thinks the coin is graded as, again I would say yes. Otherwise I'd say no.

Quote: so would I be stupid not to get these graded with the first strike label? In this instance probably yes. Whether or not first strike should carry a premium it does just like that label design will. Then consider that from the mint shipping dates its looks like the majority of orders wont be shipped in time limiting the supply and thats a pretty good argument for doing the quarterly special if youre having them graded. Quote: I got a couple of sets of each so should I do one set or all? That depends on what your intentions are. If the idea is to sell all is generally better since you need the 70s to really make money and larger orders give you a better chance. If its just for you 1 or 2 sets should be alright. You have some time to watch it before having to get them shipped and decide. If you happened to order any of the gold ones I would send everyone of those in regardless.

There may be the first error of the series. Mint news blog has a reader who is reporting a gold version without a w mint mark on it. It hasn't been confirmed but would be very interesting if true

I won't believe it for a second. The rim of the plastic capsule is obscuring the "error" (missing mintmark). Even if it is a clear photo of the coin and error, there is a program called "Photoshop." Needs to be authenticated by a good reputable authority. Edit--Here is the link to the MNB article: http://mintnewsblog.com/2014/04/bas...-w-mintmark/

Another update, some non baltimore graded ones are finally starting to hit the market. http://www.lccoins.com/2014-nationa...memoratives/ Significantly cheaper than the baltimore labels There is a non baltimore gold on ebay right now thats been bid up over 1300 so far. EDIT: Bizzy agreed about the error as well. They claim it will get sent in but well see what happens with that. If real you would think a few more of those would surface.

The "error" will put the brakes on shipping the coins....
