Quote: I just received a "SOLD OUT" indicator on a Silver Dollar order I tried to put through today about 15:30 PST 4 April 2014. All my HOF orders showed as "sold out" on the main account page. Click on that "My order history" link and you will see your order as backordered. I doubt they sold over 160k since Sunday but stranger things have happened...and...they are still for sale on the Mint site

Interesting....looks like they DIDN'T sell out on Thursday but sometime late Friday night Mint spokesman from Coin World article: Quote: Sales of the gold coins were strong enough to predict that the maximum mintage level might be reached at some point overnight [Friday]," Mint spokesman Michael White said April 3. "In an effort to provide the best communications to our customers, we made the decision to put the gold coins in a waiting list status at the close of business, while we could still provide the message.
"We believed it was better to notify customers a little early that their orders could potentially be placed on the waiting list rather than a sellout occurring overnight after close of business and then having to notify them that they would not receive a coin(s) because of depleted inventory."
U.S. Mint officials confirmed March 31 that sufficient orders had been placed to exhaust the maximum 50,000 gold coins authorized.

Just placeed a order for Baseball HOF SILVER, it did not display in order history instead of a sentence suggesting to contact custom service, does it mean silver coins sold out?

Nope. Same thing happened last w/e. It will show as backordered sometime during the day tomorrow.
There is always the chance that a crap load of silver coins were ordered over the w/e so they will figure the numbers out tomorrow.

Coin World posted on Friday that 87% of the 400,000 coins have been sold. (apparently they are getting inside information). It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Silver HOF coin listed as sold out in the coming week. I think the bigger question remains. Will the mint pursue another 100,000 coins like they did in 2005? It does seem rather foreboding that many quotes you read on the net regarding the rapid sellout of the HOF coins - references the 2005 increase in mintage - as the last major sellout. This kind of ignores both the Boy Scouts and Lincoln coins... and seems to me to imply they are hedging on an increase - hopefully for the silver only.

Doug58s, are you saying they could go ahead and decide, "Well it was so popular, let's go ahead and punch out another 100k? And this has a precedent? I thought their production was limited to approved Congressional limits....unless they didn't manufacture to approved limits. I would object. They've been available for over a week. Anyone who really wanted one could have placed and order already. This would be changing the rules in the middle of the game. Unless I don't understand in which case, "never mind."

howell - in 2005 for the Marine Corps commemorative - the Treasury Secretary authorized another 100,000 coins - after the sellout. Check it here: http://moderncommemoratives.com/200...lver-dollar/It isn't really clear if they can or can't do that on this offering - but I suspect the mint has the ability to increase the total if they feel it is going to be able to sell more. I also get the feeling they are seriously looking at that as a precedence for a possible increase in these coins based on the use of it as the talking point when discussing the HOF coins.

Gee, I think that might sour one or two people on buying products from the mint. What's the point of announcing production limits if you're going to change the numbers to suit your needs? I'm also a stamp collector and this happened a year or two ago with the release of a (coincidentally) press sheet featuring famous baseball players. It was a limited edition and I jumped on it. Well it turned out that it sold out very quickly and suddenly it became not so limited when the USPS decided to open it up to further sales. They generously allowed those who had already purchased to cancel their order. I don't recall how much the purchase price but before the release of the extra sheets I was pretty sure the sheets would be worth 5 or 6 times the selling price. They still went up, but not nearly as much as they would have.

@Doug58: the Marine Corp commemorative was heavily promoted by that branch of service to retired vets, was in all the magazines and such. Because it was a branch of the gov't the Treasury secretary was obligated to extend the mintage as to not disappoint the active and retired marines that wanted a coin. Since the BBHOF is a private enterprise already getting a huge payout for their coffers from the Mint, I think it unlikely that T. Secretary Lew is going extend the mintage limits.
FYI the ratio of proof to unc Marine Corp dollars is like 11:1.

Extending the mintage would literally be the dumbest thing they could do. They have a winner on their hands right now leave it alone. The marine one bring a service branch I have no problem with them doing that, this I'd have a huge problem with. If their goal is to try and destroy the value so the Girl Scouts and civil rights coins sales numbers are the norm for the series here on out then increasing the mintage would be a good idea.

Perth Mint extended their mintage several times, but nobody interested in their coin in the subsequent years.
