Ken, what are the reverses like? Are they part of a shield?

I really want to find a Kitchener £2 coin, might ask my bank if they will set aside a roll for me.

Yes, they are part of the Royal Shield design.

Would a bank actually put aside a whole roll new design coins for someone?

I'm hoping they will, I have a good rapport with my bank manager. Hopefully she'll help me out.

There is reportedly a dark side to the deep lustre of these new coins i.e. 4x as much nickel exposure caused as from pre-2012 according to an independent study. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coins_...d_10p_coins. Anyone else notice pre-2012 5p and 10p are already no longer an everyday find, they are being withdrawn so fast? http://www.royalmint.com/search-res...+replacement

Yeah, the old 5p and 10p coins are getting very scarce indeed. About 2 weeks back I got some old 5p`s at the supermarket but they have now dried up with all the fresh new 2014 ones coming in.

Interestingly enough its the old 10p`s which have disappeared faster than the 5p coins

Its interesting that you bring this issue up because the print media caused a storm in a teacup over the new nickel plated steel coins .

From all the arguments and research I have read and heard apparently the amount of oxidised nickel exposed to our skin is around 4 times higher with the new nickel plated steel coins than from cupro-nickel coins but the thing to remember is that these studies are based on cases were people had prolonged continuous contact with the coins e.g. holding one for an hour or more . Usually most people get coins and then put it in their pockets , wallets etc then touch them briefly again to spend them so the amount of contact we have with these coins is not too significant to be a major worry Sure, there are people with a sensitivity to nickel but that number is probably very low and given the explanation above about the amount of time we are touching those coins its unlikely even they will have problems with the new coinage

... on the subject - it seems as the weather has been warming up people have been losing their pennies and 5 pences , I have come across a handfull since April started; ironically I picked up a 2013 5p and a nice red 1996 1p a few hours after this 2014 5p

Somewhere in my house is a old design 20 pence coin that I dropped when taking change out of my pockets last night.

Seeing plenty of 2014 dated 5 pence and 10 pence but none of the others.

I still haven't had any 2014 coins in change yet!

But I'm planning to sell some of the stuff in my garage at a Boot Fair over the Easter Weekend, so I hope I may get lots of change...
