I do like that Gothic script on coins which is why I am drawn to coins from this area.

Today I'll post this 1929 3 marks

Yes, the most active theme in my collection right now is coins with patron saints, which puts me in medieval to early modern time for the most part (I have a few moderns in this theme).
As for the fellow on the reverse, According to legend, Matthias was killed with an axe, so his iconography often shows him holding a halberd.

So I don't intentionally collect Germany, but the most fertile hunting grounds for that theme are German States and Italian States (unless you are into madonnas of which there is no lack in Hungary).
Another late medieval type from Goslar, this one a Bauerngroschen dating to about 1480:
