OldSkoolMadSkilz Pillar of the Community United States 2077 Posts	Posted 05/17/2014 9:19 pm I messaged the seller to tell them that their coin is an 1802 cent with damage making the 2 look like a 4. However, I'm fairly sure it's an intentional alteration, probably old. Positioning of the date is all wrong. The seller emailed me back to tell me that I was wrong and that it is clearly an 1804. I'm not particularly familiar with varieties but that may be the reason for the high-price (A Rare Variety). Or maybe just another case of "Somebody got carried away with bidding" although it's a pretty beat up piece and it's definitely not problem-free. Report this Post to the Staff

I have a word to describe the seller's mindset but the word filter would remove it. With the position of the "4", the date would have to be 180 4 or 18 04. You really only see those odd spacings on cents from the late teens. 1804 is pretty evenly spaced. Report this Post to the Staff
