I really don't think this is aimed at the serious coin collector... but then what of the recent RCM products are?

The coin and package is unappealing (at least to me). But what concerns me is, nothing from the Rep, no MC pre-notice (that's a corner stone of the program) and yet another colouring technic purported to be a 'first'. Marketing bafflegab.
What a disappointment. Of the four things I listed yesterday, the ballet was the one I was hopping was not involved.

Assuming the box has a battery to run the music, is the battery replacable or is like one of those musical cards with music that you throw away when battery dies?
I bet the box is Made in China, like most electronic stuff.
BTW, the coin is opened to the general public, not only MC members. Its on their website now.

Quote: But what concerns me is, nothing from the Rep, no MC pre-notice (that's a corner stone of the program) I just assumed this was because they wanted the Duchess to make the first official announcement of the coin so they couldn't send anything out before hand as they do with the regular releases.

The delay is probably due to the coin and the new technique. The box is most likely out sourced and doesn't look hard to produce. The colour and detail on the coin look good. How it will look in hand is another story. Ether way though I'd probably not be interested in this subject. Perhaps there will be more interest Canada wide.

RCM has hit rock bottom. Next coin will be the shape of Canada.

Well folks... What can you say? I did receive the "announcement" email from my rep today. Shudder! I can only guess what the poor reps must think of this gimmicky coin. I can't believe the RCM would come up with this as a way to celebrate the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. I wonder who came up with the brilliant idea? They should be fired! I think the Royal Canadian Mint has been secretly taken over by the Franklin Mint. What's next a tribute to Elvis? Yes, I know MoneyPenney, you would like that.

I am guessing that someone that works at the Winnipeg Mint location is really into the Winnipeg Ballet.
What is the next coin, the Winnipeg Rifle Club? Dart Club?

Leaving apart the box, I don't like the coin neither and I'm not interested in ballet.
