To me the coin is nicely executed.....and it will make a great gift to give to someone who appreciates the arts...a prairie province that has maintained a ballet for 75yrs....that's a huge accomplishment and is part of Canadian history.....

The coin is actually a true commemorative, honoring a world renown Canadian institution. It's not the type of coin I collect, but it is a worthy subject - much more so than many of the RCM's recent coin themes. From the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's web site: "The Royal Winnipeg Ballet has a special connection to the Royal Family being the first and only ballet company in North America to hold the "Royal" designation. In 1953, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet received its royal title, the first granted under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. "Founded in 1939, Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet holds the double distinction of being Canada's premiere ballet company and one of the oldest ballet companies in North America. Versatility, technical excellence and a captivating style are the trademarks of Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, qualities that have garnered both critical and audience acclaim. RWB's superlative standards keep the Company in demand around the globe as it presents more than 150 performances every season across Canada and in the United States, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, Japan, Asia and Mexico. Under the artistic direction of André Lewis for 18 years, the Company is said to have never looked more resplendent, more assured, and more ravishing."

I believe the new coin is the 75'th anniversary of the Winnipeg Ballet coin . The " RCM first " is the fact that the coin comes in a music box and it has a colored design of ballet dancers in a circle and each are wearing different color customs . I got the email an hour ago and ordered the coin . $ 114.95 • A FIRST! The coin comes in its very own music box! The fairytale-like image is protected by a customized case that plays Sleeping Beauty (Valse) melody by Tchaikovsky when opened. • A FIRST! A Royal Canadian Mint exclusive, this coin features the use of an advanced "Sheer Effect" colourization technique used for the first time! This shimmery colour innovation faithfully recreates the intricate, soft-coloured costumes worn by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet dancers in the lavish production of The Sleeping Beauty. • Your coin is certified 99.99% pure silver, is GST/HST exempt and has a limited worldwide mintage.

Interesting. Maybe it'll be a series.... ballet, followed by, synchronized swimming, maybe? The same design could be used, only with uniforms of the same color, and the music box could play, "Ocean Bear." And no need to worry about battery replacement. They could make these solar, so they only play in the sun. This is too much, really! I need a break! I hope there are no summer releases!

Will agree with Coin Hunter. This nice piece (in the box, that looks cheap) will not be in the focus of the collectors. Mostly we like hot coins with the hot themes. The colors look very good. I am not interested in the theme and the coin, but if there would be 6 flowers, I probably would buy..

Wow, that is one awful coin. Kind of glad the RCM has been missing the mark most of this year. Not enough $$$ or storage space to go around.

Wow I'm really surprised at all the negativity about this coin, I personally think it's a great looking coin and the music box idea is good but will reserve my judgement on it to when it's in hand. Personally I was at the Mint site making my purchase within minutes of reading the email in the hopes that it hadn't sold out.

Yes we tend to forget that others may like coins that we dont and you never know it could be a big hit...look at the gold superman coin, not much interest until they started reselling for above 1k.

The 2013 mint report, the RCM is so happy with about 2/3 of the 200 or so issues as sell outs, as we know only 2 issues the superman and glass butterfly coin are the only 2 issues that held value. All the other so call sell outs are still in dealers inventory, that's why there are sales and discounts all the time. This coin has a very local theme, if the supporters of the Winnipeg ballet don't buy it out, this coin will never sell out, but if you like it, each to your own.

Awaiting stock only means that the 10 percent that they had on hand sold out...maybe...the other 90 percent was shipped to dealers a few weeks ago and or they haven't finished all the 7500 mintage yet.
