A regular customer at the store where I work knows I collect coins, and the other day he brought some coins in cardboard holders in to show me. One of them was this dateless monstrosity. He gave me the dime which was very kind of him. The planchet is distorted and the strike is very off center. It's a clad dime, and appears to be uncirculated. Have you ever seen a dime (or any other coin) like this? About what is it worth (not that I'm going to sell it, as it was a gift)? This is one of the strangest coins in my collection.

Most of the dimes I'm finding on the ebay are round or slightly misshapen, while mine is extremely distorted.

That is a perfectly normal dateless off-center strike error. When this coin was struck, the collar was not in position so the planchet was not aligned with the dies. The collar is essentially a steel plate with a hole and it is positioned between the two dies. The collar defines the diameter of a coin and applies the reeding, it is also known as "the third die". Your dime is ~70% off-center and would be worth $5-10 with dated examples bringing a bit more.
