Find out who is going to catalog it. Make sure it gets a full page in the listings. Stress the fact that one like it has never been sold by Heritage. I know a couple of the catalogers at Heritage I will definitely have them keep an eye out for this one.... maybe even get a "shout out" as "discovered" by the CCF!....and keep us informed!!

Quote:IF this is real it NEEDS to be certified and in a TPG plastic. Here is an example of one that sold at Heritage for..... $11,500 .... http://coins.ha.com/itm/errors/unda.../1166-7618.s Not trying to get you excited.....but I am a bit (tentatively) excited for you! Heritage needs to contact this guy and let him know. Bet he would go all out on this one.

Super news! Congrats on a superb find. This should sell for at least $18-25K at a Heritage auction. Hope you do well, let us know which sale it will be in so we can all keep an eye on it, I just wish I had the kind of dough that will be required to bid on it.
Might go for a bit less than my estimate, I know Heritage will take 17.5% and then there is tax to be paid on your capital gain, but still you should clear $7K+ I'd expect Mike Beyer to be a bidder on this one, he might even have clients on his want list.

Hello I looked into Stacks as well how do you feel about them? They offered free reserve of 10k and no hammer fee. Heritage wants 10% of hammer and no reserve.

Also can someone contact Mike Diamond to get his input on potential value of this coin for me. Thanks again!

That sounds like a better deal to me. I wonder if the auction houses "price match"?

Since PCGS gave the coin their seal of approval, I can only surmise that they concluded the coin was struck in a dime-sized collar with a smooth working face. As such it would qualify as a "collar mule" (correct dies, wrong collar) which would elevate its value considerably above that of a conventional brockage.

Thank you Mike my concern is Stacks @ bowers had me contact Fred weinstin in California he did not look at coin on pcgs just went by me telling him that it was a 1908 barber first strike brockage. He said it was valued at 2500 to 3500 while Heritage said closer to 15K possibly higher. Why the huge difference? Did I not explain properly to Fred? Also Stacks & Bowers is offering much better rates. Can I expect around the same return from both Auction houses? Thank you Mike

Amida17 I did find who would catalog it at Heritage it will be Mark Borkhart or Mark Vanwinkle but must likely Borkart. Do you feel Stacks is just as good however? I get much better rates with them

I'm no dealer, so I can't comment intelligently on its ultimate auction price. I would think $10,000 at a minimum. But you might do considerably better if you re-sumbmitted it to PCGS requesting it be described as having been struck in a smooth collar as well as being an in-collar, first-strike brockage. Collar mules are virtually unknown among U.S. coins. I can't guarantee that PCGS would describe it as such, but it's worth a shot.

$2500-$3000 sounds awfully low for that coin. The Heritage estimate seems much more realistic.

Can anybody give input if Stacks&Bowers is just as good as Heritage? I am really considering Stacks&Bowers offer. I just dont want to leave money on the table if it could yeild more at Heritage.
