I have this coin listed as c#4.2 in krause catalogue, I have 3 in brass and 1 in iron
Is the iron coin normal?
The coin is this one: http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces16331.html

Hello kommodore_ss,

It would help to have actual pictures of your coin.

I don't know about the 4 Mon coins, but with the 1 Mon coins some of them are magnetic. Although they are mostly copper, based on what area of Japan the metal came from, they may have enough iron to be magnetic. I presume this is true for 4 Mon coins as well.

I have looked at the numista page and see they only list two varieties of 4 Mon coins. If you look in specialist catalogs like Hartill or the JNDA they list many more varieties. Therefore I bet your coin is not an exact match for the coin on numista and probably another variety.

Does your coin have a mintmark on the reverse? The one you linked to does.

Again, it would be helpful to have pictures of your coin.

Here it is, definitely iron, attracted by magnet and a bit rusted.
