a quick suggestion to the uninformed / uneducated here do yourself a favour and buy a copy of THE COIN COLLECTERS SURVIVAL MANUAL 6TH EDITION by scott travers , and read it cover to cover twice in case you do not get it the first time and then you might understand the concept of TPG better

Settle down Shane me old Mate. There are FAR more ignorant people that CAN read than those that can't Regardless of whither or not APGGS is a worthwhile/viable TPG it doesn't give anyone the right to ridicule in this manner any Member on this site. Shane does have a problem with the two r's (It is evident in his posts) BUT that doesn't make him stupid NOR ignorant FAR from it. What IS Stupid, Ignorant and plain Bloody rude is people that take advantage of other peoples disadvantages without regard for Common Decency. So please desist with these personal attacks.

Very good reading, maintaining a healthy skepticism of any self-proclaimed "grading experts". I've also read the most recent edition. All hail the Great and Powerful TPGs, for they can do no wrong. Sellout.

Sellout.
Not a well thought out comment at all. Circumstances change over thirty years. The top tier TPG companies are much more consistent these days.

Agent 86, I have not read the book that Sap is referring to,but Sap is a very experienced and level headed poster. If he thinks the writer is a sellout then there probably is some merit in that comment. The TPGs are good, but not perfect. They are still a bit inconsistent in their gradings and when a coin can grade 2 different grades on 2 different days at the same TPG then that is wrong as thousands of dollars can separate the grades. At the top level the difference in value between a Top of the Pop coin and one grade lower can be 5 to 50 times the price. For example I recently paid $140 for a MS65 sixpence when the top coin (MS66) had sold for around $8,000 just last year, so if that grade had been 65 instead of 66 the owner would have been robbed of 98% of the coins value .

Quote: I cant wait for ebay aust to set up a top tier slabs only policy You do know that it is only introduced in America. It will not be introduced into countries that A- Have a TPG already operating B- In countries that they are not situated in. ebay can't afford to lose more business to other avenues as their profit is turning on a downward spiral. I can't believe this conversation is still going (and still talking useless information that is not relevant to the topic) and now slandering people. SHAME ON YOU ALL.

you are right coinsaus , I cant believe we have wasted 11 pages on a two bit TPG that is going nowhere and not up to the standard of the big boys (PCGS , NGC ) and probably wont even be around for the long haul
