yeh it is, don't clean it, don't scrap it along the table, don't drop it one scratch/ding/gouge will be worth a small car in devaluation if this is real. get to a coin shop, get storage media (mylar sleeve or 2x2. if you spend less than $5 for 20 sleeves then it isn't good enough) then use the macro settings on you camera to take a better pic. we are all keen to hear how this pans out if you don't know how to set your camera up then let us know the make/model and we will help you

Appreciate the help everyone. I nearly scrapped it as gold weight in a pawn shop, good job I googled it 1st. I will put better pics on tonight, I only took them ones on my phone as you can all probably tell. Its all tucked up in bubble wrap atm, I thought it best to not attempt to clean it as I didnt want to damage it

Cannot grade Australian coins, but one thing for sure: it is circulated. Definite wear on that coin. Somewhere around VF (American standards)..?

question is, is it real
I would love it to be real, then it would be a $80k coin and a cool story that could inspire new collectors

Thanks for the link serial. I really dnt know much about coins and its hard 2 know who to trust so thought i'd join here n get some advice from people who know their stuff. I've spoke to 2 coin dealers in the uk about this and they both reckon its not that rare and offered me £1000, tho they were extremely keen to buy it. If I really do get anywhere near as much as you all say its worth for it, i'll give one of you a gift as a thankyou. It wasnt the only coin hidden away in the dolls house

if you would have been happy with $2k then I would suggest putting it in a premier auction house and seeing where it goes. even in todays depressed market you will get more than what those dealers offered you! just a suggestion but they have a god rep and large client base https://www.spink.com/

Just had a response from walter eigner at numisbid. He confirmed it is vf20 grade and says it would retail at $80,000.

if you are willing to send it to Walter you would probably get a better result than a non Australian auction. its a better market here for aus coins and Walter is a good auctioneer well known in the community here. heck why don't you fly over with the coin and have a holiday! you can afford it now :)
