The main problem with all these Presidential and wife type coins is in the future they will be a novelty, but not worth the investment. I really feel they will end up as the Bicentennial coins that are basically worth face value and barely that. The Susan B. Anthony coins failed. The Sacagawea coins failed. They may stay interesting but of no real value in the future. Just like the State Quarters, educational but no worth much. I noticed at a coin show Sunday there are now Albums from companies I never heard of before making Albums for those Dollar coins so I guess many are profiting from all this.

At least the Presidential dollars are keeping some State Quarter collectors interested in other series. No matter how you look at it, the Presidential dollars are a plus. As for the First wives, I agree with you carl, they are a novelty. My feeling about the First Spouses Gold Coins is, this product is one that won't hold any long term value. I don't see them selling out a couple of years from now. They're the kind of coins that should be sold real fast if you want to make a profit.

Although I have to admit, I plan on purchasing a Jefferson Gold coin for myself.

You also need to remember, there will be several of the "presidents" liberty versions. Jefferson is just the first with the "liberty".

Whether these others will have the same exact obverse except for the name is unknown.

That in itself may devalue the "liberty" versions....

I think the Jackson spouse coin will also be a popular issue. It should be more popular than the VanBuren issue.

One thing I'm still not sure about, even though I've read the mint description. That is, can you only buy one Jefferson Spouse coin, period. Or, can you buy one uncirculated and one proof?

No, it is known. The designs have already been released. The Jackson Liberty is based on the Coronet five dollar gold, and the Van Buren is based on the Coronet 2 1/2 dollar gold. Which means that those two will be very close in design. Personally I think that was a mistake. I would have much prefered each Liberty First Spouse coin to have a distinctively different Liberty head, and they could have easily done that by making one of the next two based on the Capped Bust Liberty design.

The limits will last for a week, after 1 week, the mint will raise the limit. I haven't heard what that limit would be.

The coins will sell out in less than 24 hours.

i agree, I think the coins will still sell-out same day, just a little longer b/c of the shear volume of people who are trying to buy them. Aftermarket will still be good since it seems these will be the most popular to date.
