What a shame I had such high hopes for the series. I still think the first coin in that canopy series looks amazing I can't believe how fast people have forgotten it. I decided not to collect the series a while back but have kept the first because I still enjoy it.
I was considering the maple set for a whole 30 seconds before I realized it was the same design done 3 different ways. I can't hate on a maple design but they should try to put a little more effort into it.

@Silveroid: Yes, I did pick up one of the Mercanti-designed Australian eagles. I like the design very much! @NuMoosematist: I was definitely amused by your salmon joke! I hope it doesn't give the RCM any ideas!

A few personal observations on the August release... The Maple Canopy "Autumn Allure" coin is a nice complement to the original 2013 Maple Canopy "Spring" coin. I'm not a collector of these particular coins, but if I had purchased and liked the first one, then sat out the next two releases, I would likely jump back in and purchase this one. The RCM's return to the original designer - Emily Damstra - for the final coin was a smart move IMO. I like the image presented on the two-ounce silver WWII "Gunner in Training" coin. The coin is a true historical commemorative - they type of coin I prefer. I won't be purchasing one, however, as I'm restricting my commemorative collection to coins of more traditional sizes and denominations. I realize that's somewhat arbitrary, but I needed to draw the line somewhere! The design for the "Majestic Maple Leaves" coin set is attractive enough, but did the RCM really need to release three coins with the same design varying only by whether or not they are colour/jade enhanced? At least when they used this approach for the recent Bald Eagle subscription, they used different designs for the colourized and gold-plated coins vs. the plain silver piece. I think many collectors would be satisfied with the purchase of one of the three vs. needing all of them. Several new ways to celebrate the Year of the Sheep. Too many for my taste. I wonder when the market for these lunar calendar themed coins will hit the saturation point. So many countries are issuing them and most are releasing multiple versions. I feel sorry for the collector looking to assemble a complete set! I've commented above re: the new Eagle coin. I may purchase one of the bullion versions at some point, but I won't be spending $90 on the proof version. It's too much to spend for a coin design of which I already have several versions.

Quote:If anyone missed out on the first Maple Canopy coin (Spring) there is an auction ending in 30 minutes and its well below issue price. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/331269170215....m1431.l2649 Sad... $51 sold for spring canopy and $45 for the autumn ...don't think I will bother buying from the mint any more, may as well wait for "deep" discounts that appear to be coming on most of the mints NCLTs.

Doesn't these sales of the first canopy coin for tell the future value of the upcoming coin, why would you buy it now at issue when surely this coin and 99% of all new issues will be available for well under issue price.

After seeing the other Canopy's sell for $50 on ebay I decided to cancel the Canopy coin I just ordered from RCM and will wait until I get a discount. I think I'm going to be doing a lot of this from now on. I have a couple 20% coupons at The Shopping Channel so I'll just wait until they show up on their website.

why because I dont know the final mintage of the coin.....it could be way lower than 7500...ill watch the prices but I dont think they will do down to much...and as a complete set is always worth more together

Will agree with the silverdollarnuts:
The coin that I really want and it already has a "future place" in my collection - I will buy directly from the Mint. Just to avoid possible disappointment later for not getting it in time.
And the few coins, that I plan to buy later (waiting for the discounts) - will probably not buy at all. Just mahe exception for the "Scalloped" Ram - get it closer to the end of the year.

I have a couple 20% coupons at The Shopping Channel so I'll just wait until they show up on their website The one that was posted in the link sold for $69.06 USD so roughtly $75 CDN (base on ebay Conversion). The ad ended at almost 6pm Eastern time which is dinner time for most folks in Eastern Time Zone. Heading to home time for the Mountain and Pacific time Zone. The coin was hot when it first came out then the second coin killed the series. So everyone is dumping the coin because they don't like the second coin and don't want to continue the series. Since this is no longer a hot coin, it shouldn't be put in an auction. People should only put coin in an Auction when everyone is looking for it. When no one look for the coin and you put it in an Auction, you deserve the price you got in return. I think this Third coin will bring the attention back to the series. No it won't be as hot as before, but people liking the 3rd coin may want to go back to looking at the first two coin. The Operative word here is MAY.

Not just to have arguments sake, but when has a series of coins have the latter releases worth more than the first original coin.

The RCM's return to the original designer - Emily Damstra - for the final coin was a smart move IMO... I don't mean to disparage anyone else's comments about the Canopy series, but my wife and I actually like the first Autumn coin because it is different and we find it attractive. As a result we decided to complete the series of all four coins since the latest release also looks very good. This, in spite of the fact that oddly there are two Spring and two Fall designs and no Summer and Winter ones. Who knows, maybe next year these two missing seasons will be represented in a new series, (including an Eagle peeking out from a branch with a Speckled Trout dangling out of its beak). I also agree with many of you who find it depressing that the aftermarket prices for this series are so low on ebay these days. Perhaps these sellers just want to rid themselves of these coins for whatever reasons. I don't really care too much since we buy what we like and don't worry about the re-sale value. We're collectors not investors. Also buying coins on ebay can lead to unpleasant surprises as has been noted by members here in the past. By the way, for those like minded, Canada Post is still offering the third coin at issue price with free shipping...

Got my $50 for $50 snowy owl coin today. I ordered it as soon as it released so I'm pretty surprised it shipped so fast. Anyways, here is a pic of it in hand. Great looking coin imo.
