Tomtom777, id like to post pics of others, but I honestly do not know what they are. I look around the site and try to see pics other people post and what they are called. A few times I found related posts, but you guys use acronyms lol. I try and not bring them anywhere for fear of too many people knowing what I have and trying to rob me. I ordered a large safe for my home because I dont believe in locking them away in a bank. How do you appreciate them when you cant see them? And certainly after being recently robbed, I dont want anyone locally knowing. It takes one shop owner telling one person, who tells his friend etc.

That's a pretty good cherry pick. I presume you are sending it into one of the TPGs. What do you think it will grade?

I forgot to add that make sure in advance that the TPG will give it the variety attribution -- that may be an extra cost, and probably needs to be paid and noted upon submission.

Unfortunately the 1876 II/II has environmental damage on obverse, and both sides have been cleaned at some point. It won't qualify for a numerical grade. I'm just pleased that it has survived the smelters, given the incredible rarity of it. I'll probably have PCGS authenticate it with attribution.

Judd, great pick. Congrats Ant, if you decide to sell and advertise "Looking for a good, caring home", let me know.

Ant76, if you have a smartphone or an iPad, you could get both the PCGS Photograde and priceguide for free off the app store. You can use photograde to identify the coins and use the price guide to see how much they are worth. However, everything non-american and patterns (which are identified with a J) will not be helped with these apps.

I have both. I downloaded the pcgs price guide for iphone as well as photograde. My biggest problem is knowing the name of coins. My grandfather was a big "proof" guy. From what I'm told, he does have some pretty rare ones. I dont really bring them to coin shops because I put a few in the bank and its a pain to get them. Several were graded and I was told what they were, but I forgot. Plus I always have people questioning origin, auctions etc. a comment was made several posts up about one of them coming from a heritage auction. As long as I've known about his coins, I dont think he ever bought one from heritage. Most of them I sent to be graded. I have a ton to learn and after recent events, I'm now even more worried about telling (or showing) people what I have. I was told that this is the number one reason people have coins taken

Just now catching up with this thread ... great fun to read the entire discussion. Excellent cherry pick ... demonstrates once again that knowledge is power. Thanks for sharing the find with us. David
