I believe if you find the #7, it would be published in a major coin magazine.

Your grandfather had an amazing collection of Morgan dollars and that is another example of why. Good luck and let's see a picture.

After speaking with family today at our labor day bbq, I was told by grandma that the coin was in my grandfathers collection for sure. I asked my grandmother if she remembers anything about it. These are her exact words " I remember grandpa getting one just like this. He started the plant (construction site) in PA in 1958 and was there for over 10 years. He had a guy named nox that worked for him as a laborer who brought family members to work that needed jobs. After a while, they started to get to know grandpa better and found out he was a coin collector. Either nox had the coin or one of his family did. They sold it to grandpa for $50 which at the time was alot of money." " but I think its a different number, maybe 7 or something like that" I was litterally stunned when she said that. I began my search yeaterday with no luck ao far. You have to remember, there are 3 large storage facilities and my entire basement filled with boxes. I have been working on the boxes in the basement for 2 months now. Yesterday (with the help if a CCF member) I found over 80 Morgan dollars, 24 liberty half dollars and 11 Seated Liberty quarters inside a pair of shoes. They were wrapped in plastic and stuffed inside. Although this was awesome, I now have to go back through stuff and make sure there is nothing inside of things. I started this morning and in the first box was an envelope with $900 I'm face value of $1,$5,$10,$50 and one $500 silver and gold certificates. I have made plans with a CCF member who will be helping me find and catalog/invetory everything up till now as I still am learning. Whats exciting is I told my grandma what I have so far and she said thats not even half of it. He bought coins in the 90's and early 2000's that were as much as cars. This will be very exciting in the near future and everything (pics) will be posted

Cool story, fingers crossed for you on this neat piece of history! I've seen a couple of the engraved Denver Silver dollars before, yes they are selling for a lot, back when I saw the pair - I want to say the asking price was around $7500 for the pair, this would've been early 1990's, or maybe mid to late 1980's.

$7500 for two had to have been '80's.

I think you should start cataloging the hoard instead of searching for a specific coin...you will get to it eventually, but you might miss some other awesome coins if you only focus on one coin.
And if you havn't quit your day job yet, now might be the time and focus on your hoard instead.

epikur, quitting your job to handle something like this is bad advice without knowing what kind of job he holds. What's the rush to get through it? With some professional help, he should be able to take his time, pace himself, and enjoy discovering the apparently amazing collection his grandfather presumably built over a lifetime. It might take 6 months to get through all this, heck, it might take a year before everything is inventoried, graded, and ready for sale if that's what he chooses. If he doesn't need the money, what's the rush?
