I had a friend just inform me that the 1985 New Zealand mule nickel dollar just sold for a $10,000 hammer price... for an AU grade strike!!

That is more than double for a recent mint state example that sold at the 2012 RCNA.

My bet is that a certain error collector who live in eastern BC, who hoards these things, was the aggressive bidder on this one. An AU grade simply is not worth that kind of money... in my opinion....

That is a lot. I just did up a little article for our club's newsletter on that coin and the highest sale price I found was $6600 for an ICCS AU50 back in 2006.

SPP: I'm not personally an error collector.... so much of a learning curve still for me... but I love all of your comments on the threads that you post in... please keep it up.. and thank you...

Just curious.. but who was running this auction with the '85 New Zealand mule that you speak of?
