For those of you that are convinced that this is PMD, I challenge you to reproduce it on a V nickel.

What a nice rainy day activity: to produce a similar coin.
I can hear the hammers as I write this.

All right, dangit. I'm gonna have to pack my stuff and do a daytrip.

Ray's been having so much fun with that high-mag 3-D stacking software that I want to try it for myself. This looks like an ideal candidate. For like a 75-image stack.

If you rainy day guys try to hammer on a V-nickel wear protective eyewear. One reason I doubt this is PMD is because nickel is such a hard metal.

Yeah, nickel is a terrifically hard metal. You ever seen what a Nickel does to an aluminum baseball bat when you take a good cut at one? To this day, we have no idea where those nickels went. Somewhere in Cleveland.

That explains a lot. Not sure what, but it is a lot.

A wise guy through me a golf ball during batting practice at Tradition Stadium in Florida last November. We heard it hit some sheet metal in the parking lot. Nearest edge of the lot was at least 200 feet past the 370 mark in left center.

The OP's coin reminded me of one that I had tucked away. Thought I'd try to practice my pic-taking skills, more lack thereof, on this coin:

1904-Liberty-Nickel-With-Extra-Stars?

1904-Liberty-Nickel-With-Extra-Stars?

I've been told that this is PMD, but no one can tell me how it was done. The coin is no longer perfectly round, but it doesn't appear to be damaged. To me, it appears to have shifted between strikings.
