1888/7-Indian-Cent

Just wanted to get some insight on what other people think. Is this an 1888/7 Indian cent? It looks like there is a clear 7 at the top of the last 8 but I am no professional and have never seen one this prominent at the top like this. Please help!

Can you post a full obverse pic? There should be a Cud over the E in UNITED>

Sorry, this is not an 1888/7 for a number of reasons. The date position in relation to the bust is wrong and the markers for the overdate are not there. The portion of the '7' protruding above the upper loop of the last '8' is very small. Also, in the later die stage there is a large rim Cud at 9:00 on the obverse. Lastly, there are probably less than 30 examples known which is why this the top IHC variety.
Rest in Peace

I agree with beaglebailey. The date is in the wrong spot. and I don't see the 7 on the lower portion of the last 8.

For starters, the date position is much different on the 1888/7 Snow-1. Here are the markers:

This variety is tough.

Just a heads up, this overdate will not always have the Cud, so I'd suggest learning some other pick up points, too. Like the date position.

I've probably seen one in the Longacre Ledger. Die stage A is listed as having no Cud, die stage B has the Cud. The advanced collector may desire an example of each, and because die stage A is so rare it could command a premium.

Yeah--I haven't seen a "die stage A"--it's certainly the exception. Rick Snow once told me that all Snow-1 show the Cud.

Humm, I've been told by others otherwise... but it does say in Rick's book that die stage A doesn't have a Cud.

So what is going on with the OP coin. There does look to be some sort of ghost image. It would be easy to think it is a top of a seven. Do you guys know what it is?
