I'm liking what's happening with this coin a lot. Could this die have lasted much longer? Is the doubling from a doubled die or is it from the Die Deterioration? The doubling on the date didn't show up as much as I hoped, but it was the first thing I noticed on this small coin (getting used to closeups with the iPhone).

Well, shoot, the die cracks on both sides don't show up very well. They are practically right across both sides.

The coin is a real doubled die error. The pronounced notching present on the letters is a dead giveaway. As for the die cracks, the dies were definitely deteriorating, but I think that they still had a bit more life left in them before they failed completely.

Nice doubled die! It looks like even the date was hubbed on the die.

I agree with DVCollector on both counts. Been searching for DD's/errors most of my life, researched and read a book or two with comparison photos of DD's and HD, even found some.

Agree with Sir Popalot and Chequer concerning the die cracks.
