Nate your killing me. I love that First Meris, I want one so bad. That Caligula is supper. I wonder where you got that? Not really I know.

Was actually thinking of Roman Roman coins when making the thread, but in retrospect I might as well have stated Ancient instead of Roman. Beautiful/spectacular coins from everyone. My personal favourite so far: the Septimus Severus Denarius RIC 274, mainly due to the unorthodox reverse

Quote: Was actually thinking of Roman Roman coins when making the thread, but in retrospect I might as well have stated Ancient instead of Roman. My fault, sorry. What I suppose I should have posted is... Six of these eight coins share the top spot if the Antioch coin is excluded, together with several others that I mostly don't have photos of; the other two would too but they're Byzantine (6th century). Fun unrelated fact: I've paid exactly the same amount for each of the two V nickels pictured as scale. Anyone care to guess what the years are? If that's any consolation, I considered posting a coin from 18th century Austria. Fortunately, I decided that it wasn't Roman enough, and too late for this forum anyway.

Quote: My fault, sorry. No need to feel sorry, it was me who made the mistake of using a too limited topic title - read "Roman" as "Ancient" please.

Ooh, then it would be this one: Olbia dolphin "coin", 7th-1st century BC (not sure when exactly - I've seen and heard estimates all over that range). Probably slightly overpaid for it, unfortunately.

Ah, if non-Roman coins are in the mix then the most I ever paid was for this one, which incidentally is my favorite coin I own. I know I've posted it in several threads on here but I never mind breaking it out again. :) A Billion tridrachm from Carthage, minted during the second Punic war. 9.589g, 26.2mm, Carthage mint, c. 215 - 205 B.C.

'Dutch' Everyone needs someone to give them a little push now and then. It is difficult to make the leap and acquire that special something without someone giving you a second opinion that you are doing the right thing ! In my case my 'dealer' friend Lou who insisted send him $100 a month and "If you change your mind ...... I give you credit back" How could a young man resist ? I was seduced

This would be my most expensive. A JC denarius would be a distant second.

Beautiful 'Theo' !
I have never yet managed up the courage to buy a gold ancient. Exception being a Justinian which someone had long ago set in a bezel ...... But those don't count really

I dont have a ready pic of my most expensive Roman but the republican roman I have spent the most on is my avatar. I probably paid too much for it actually but I am a sucker for 'rainbow' toning on ancient silver. M. Plaetorius Cestianus
