I like the coins, I agree they are beautiful. The hype was exciting and cost was disappointing when all came to fruition. Who in the general population can afford this luxury. If you don't mind me asking, is anyone here even considering the purchase?

I think the real question should be....If you had an extra $19000 kicking around , would you buy the set?

For 19k, I can think of all kinds of coins I'd rather buy, and definitely get more bang for my buck. Perhaps someone over at the mint was smoking the same stuff as Rob Ford....while in a drunken stupor!!

Actually it is $20,000 for people that live in provinces that have PST like BC. The PST is 7% in BC so the tax is $1312.

I did not see beauty of this set. Bear in mind, the original design is for silver background. Flowers and insects are vivid. Now both the bumble bee and the frog coin have color contrast issue only because they are duplicating an old design.

Quote: I think the real question should be....If you had an extra $19000 kicking around , would you buy the set? I think in this case, majority would buy. Just because "why not, anyway it extra money". But more provoking question: "Would you return to RCM for issue price your old coins, and in case if you accumulated $19.000 , you'll get the set?" Yes, all we like the coins in the current collection, but aren't they just old coins, with standard themes, lying here and there (boxes, albums), while as a replacement - the super limited edition new and sparky set of gold coins with Venetian Glass!

Certainly a first.
Rehash a series based on the popularity of the first coin. Potentially threaten the value of that first coin, by the double whammy of major scarcity and low bullion multiplicity.
When they aren't flooding the market, they are looking for ways to ruin the situations they got right.

The continuing relentless pumping out of non descript garbage continues. Over an issue a day !

The silver series looks to be an even better deal now! I don't like the RCM rehashing popular items like they did by gold plating the 2013 O Canada series of $10 coins. Fortunately with the coins being that expensive, the average collector will probably never see them anyways.

This set makes the 1912-1914 6 gold coin premium set look like a bargain at $12,000. And there was only 140 boxed sets for made available. These old gold coins have more history and provenance.
I don't know why the Mint continues to use Murano Italian glass on our Canadian coins. It does say "Canada" on our coins. Not Italy.

The only 1912-14 gold premium best of the best set sold in FEB. Heritage auction for under issue price, they were also a RCM mess. Read that a RCM rep predicted this set to sell for 28000.00 aftermarket, this will only happen if gold rockets to 2500.00 US. If the RCM can sell many gold kilos, its no surprise they sold these out

I'm overwhelmed by the fantastic enthusiasm that most of you seem to have for this incredible, highly imaginative and uniquely designed set! Am I maybe misreading the posts on this thread? Anyway, Darryl asks: Quote: I think the real question should be....If you had an extra $19000 kicking around , would you buy the set? My answer as most of you already know is an emphatic NO!
