The odds of that quarter being one of those in the article are astronomical. BUT, if you really believe you have something, send it in to ANACS. I still think its plated, but I have been wrong once or twice.

This has been a very intriguing thread.
While at first I was leaning toward the quarter being plated. But after reading through the link about the experimental planchet swung me back to the middle. From the pictures shown, the only thing I can say is that your quarter is different.
As Smokeriderdon states the odds would be astronomical if this were one of these coins. Yet people do win the lottery with similar odds.
While I normally do not recommend sending coins to be graded, this is one I'd send in.
Good luck and keep us updated.

With so few known .. it is sort of crazy to think one could be found in change .. but it does happen. I would not get to excited until I knew for sure what it was. As stated before .. plated ones are often found in circulation. I did a search and it looks like some have been slabbed. David Lawrence auctions had one.

I'm telling you the color is a perfect match to your picture also.I would also rate quality about the same - maybe a 68

Your right - I just want it to be true but I do have a good feeling. I sometimes am that person that by happenstance find myself with treasure. Its been that way since I was little kid. Who should I have certify the coin?

Quote: I did not know the mint sold them until a few weeks ago ... The mint doesn't sell them. The Mint gift shop is a private concern that contracts with the mint and they sell non mint products as well. Quote: What should my next steps be. Specific Gravity test. My guess is it will be about the same as a CuNi clad quarter. As Ilewellin pointed out, even at 5.87 grams it is still within mint tolerance for a clad quarter.

I believe that mine is on the exact planchette materials as the sac dollar - it would be comprised of those compositions. I see no core materials.

Sounds like you're pretty sure, so send it in for verification and let us know how it turns out. If it's the real deal and you intend to sell it, you'll want the certification anyway.

Quote: I believe that mine is on the exact planchette materials as the sac dollar Well if it was made on a quarter size planchet punched from dollar strip it would weigh 6.81 grams
