Actually, if they are not graded they dont exist. Try selling one as MS70 without it being slabbed. doesn't matter if it really is 70. Not being graded means it aint.

Actually no. I am serious. If it is not graded as a 70 by one of the 4, are you seriously going to pay that money for it? Maybe if you have the set in hand and are in a generous mood. That makes them, in practice, non existent unless slabbed.

Maybe if you have the set in hand and are in a generous mood I think that's the problem with slabbed coins. People tend to get worked up over having a coin in a slab that tells them the grade they want it to be rather than looking at the coin and deciding for themselves. I believe a MS70 coin in a slab should only hold a small premium over a MS70 raw coin simply because of the protection the slab gives it but I know that isn't the case.

Quote: My guess is that there are tens of thousands of MS70 sets out there. Just because they haven't yet been slabbed doesn't mean they don't exist. Absolutely true...but...they can't be called MS70 sets unless...well...they actually are labeled as MS70 sets. YOU can call them anything you want but there will always be the disclaimer "in my opinion" and you can't even use THAT phrase on ebay

I am surprised to see that this set is still available. I was thinking that it would be a sell out by now. How do I find out how many are left to sell or does someone have those numbers they can post?

I noticed that in an email that I got from the mint yesterday.

Thats a big drop in sales, maybe this set isn't as popular as I first though it would be. I wonder if they will drop the mintage to 200k

Now that PCGS has finally acknowledged the silver Kennedys (and the gold Kennedys, whether you like it or not) to be, ummm, lemme see, Kennedy halves rather than commemorative coins, the pieces should become more popular. NGC has set up a separate 1964-2014 Registry Set, it remains to be seen if they will include them in their other sets. That's why I bought them in the first place, to put them in my Registry Sets (and to have a few extras for sale,) so I was Rawther Put Out when PCGS originally just put them in the Commemorative sets. I believe PCGS left them in those sets as well but I haven't checked. Best Regards, George

It looks like the current number of sets sold is a little over 209,000. There was a raw set for sale on ebay a few weeks ago and it only sold for $89 so I guess you might be able to snag a set for below the current price from the mint. I picked up a MOD uncirculated commem dollar PCGS MS69 for $40 which is $9 less than from the mint. The raw 2013 West Point Eagle sets also seem to be selling for $15 or more below the original issue price of $140. I guess some (if not almost 95%) of the modern issues from the mint are not investment or resale money makers.
