Probably they didn't use the right term, should have show "Sold Out" vs "Out of Stock" with a "Back Order" option like the 'Kennedy 2013 Half-Dollar, 2-Roll Set'.

We'll know soon enough.

I called the mint and the rep says that when inventory hits zero, items usually go to back order status. The clad set didn't. Hmm.

What delivery service the Mint uses is different depending on where you live. I am in California and my former employer, in Milpitas, was regularly buying Mint products and they were all delivered by UPS with signature confirmation. They were being shipped out of Indiana. I left that company in June of last year. I live in Central California an hour or so south of Sacramento.

I completely forgot about yesterday being the first day sale for this set and I read a post on an NGC forum about them. I was not even registered on the Mint's web site and had no problems or delays registering and ordering one set just because. When I get I will probably take it to my coin club meeting for show and tell if no one else gets theirs before me.

My Kennedy half dollar collection ends at 1970 and it is not even completed yet. No hurry, what I am missing is easy to locate and very inexpensive.

Ordered last night and was pleased with how quick the process was. Got my shipping notice today at 10:30 am, complete with FedEx tracking number.

Unfortunately, FedEx tracking won't give me any info when I put the number in. C'est la vie. Maybe FedEx will figure it out tomorrow.

Not to mention the complaints from collectors who bought the four coin set on the belief that the four unique coins would only be available in this set.

..and just what other options do you see available?...or are you just "assuming" they will appear

Someone mentioned the clad half set IS the sleeper set?

I said it COULD be the sleeper of the group...200k..cheap price...and now sold out (out of stock = sold out...otherwise they would be listed as backordered)

The first notification is just the creation of the shipping label which won't show until they actually receive and scan the package.

If it is a FedEx number then it will arrive by regular USPS mail. If it is a UPS number it will be 2nd day air and arrive by UPS.

I think people are misinterpreting the whole mintage limit / production limit thing. For sets, they use a production limit instead of a mintage limit, because each coin could have it's own mintage limit. For this set, they will mint around the same for each, but consider a proof set. Each coin could have vastly different mintage limits. So, no, having a production limit instead of a mintage limit does not imply that there will be other offerings.

Apparently there is at least one person on mintnewsblog that has already received his set! Apparently also the boxes are bigger than expected.

After reading all of the replies about how fast and easy the transaction was, I'm a little disheartened. I tried to purchase mine this morning and cannot get through the checkout. The screens keep getting hung up. I keep trying to refresh the page and I was slowly making progress but cannot get to the final page to click the confirm box and hit checkout. It is grayed out and has the hourglass thingy.
I was going to buy the Kennedy Unc set as well along with this purchase. I guess that is what I get for trying to save $5.

Thanks for that info...

I guess with the new website we will all have to learn what is meant by their new terminology....

"Out of stock" was never used previously....

This same item was previously "backordered" with the order link not available...then backordered WITH the order link activated...then "available"....now "out of stock" no order link

Gets to where you have to check daily if you are interested in an item...

Quote:
Out Of Stock: When products are in an "Out of Stock" status, this means we do not have inventory of the product and we do not have an anticipated in stock date. Products in this status cannot be ordered online or through our customer contact center, but you can request to be reminded when the product will be returning to sale (through the "Remind Me" function on the product detail page.)

So at this time, the product cannot be ordered, but it has not sold out.

I'm beginning to think the theory that the clad high relief is a sleeper is valid. I don't know how many collectors consider having every issue a requirement, but a total population of 200,000 doesn't seem high enough to cover it. I could see these easily settling into a common price two to three times the issue price. If they are not sold out, I think I will order 5 for my mother's household, and 5 for my daughter's household.
