I picked up a replacement Shield nickel (without rays) recently and wanted to see what the CCF has to say about it in comparison to PCGS.

Thank you for your interest!

I believe it is a weak strike and stars aren't worn, so I would say MS64.

EDIT: But I would not be suprised if it is AU58 coin:)

I see no wear, MS-64 maybe? The date has some serious doubling though

MS-63, although I could see it going MS-64. Its a tough call.

Very cool doubled date! Did PCGS attribute it as such?

Did they call it 303 or 309? The two are pretty similar; in fact, the die crack from the left leaves certainly seems identical on both. Wonder how that works.

OTOH, that crack on yours is less well-developed than the 303 and 309 examples I looked at, and neither of those have the cracking yours has through the date. To my mind, then, it can't be either.

Interesting.

I am not sure who to believe...PCGS or the CCF Members. Although our extended family member thusdayclub did mention the PCGS grade as a possibility.

...and a shout out to Gail at J.J. Teaparty from whom I purchased this one from.

I think I see a tiny bit of wear on the left-inner side of the shield.

a beauty nonetheless
