Yeah... that bothers me too. I have only placed one order, and for 4 sets.
There are people in this thread that got theirs, on orders placed after 12/10. Granted most of those seem to be 2nd orders, but still, it's the principle.

Well, I emailed the US Mint with raving kudos when I had a great experience with their new website. Let's face it, "great experiences" are few and far between with the US Mint... at least in my 30 years of dealing with them.
So now, I emailed them on this issue. Bringing up the limit of 5 being randomly/frequently broken. Bringing up orders made after mine, already being filled, and bringing up their treatment of the collector in general, which is an issue that is never quite right with the Mint.
Just thought I'd throw that out.

I complained to the mint about this exact thing. I know of customers who placed an order after both myself and my sister did, and their orders were shipped. Granted, I don't believe anything customer service tells me because I always get a different story, but I received this reply from the mint today regarding later orders that were shipped before earlier orders, which are still on back order... "Our records indicate that the product requested is currently on backorder and will ship as soon as inventory becomes available. The distribution center did experience an issue which caused a small portion of total orders for the American $1 Coin and Currency Set to ship prior to other orders which were placed on past days. All orders which were placed prior to this issue will still be allocated inventory and shipped when available. While this product is in high demand, there will be enough inventory available to ship all orders placed prior to the orders which have shipped." Now if I understand all that correctly, if you placed an order before this last shipment, and your order is on back order, it will be shipped...IF this reply from the mint is correct.

Another day still on BACKORDER.... Maybe next year they will ship my order? This is getting tiresome. I'm just about over this whole thing. The mint is just plain sad in all manners of business.

All these stories about how the mint is messing up ...has me worried. My order of four sets, that I ordered on 12/11, says it was shipped .... The package was scanned in Atlanta on 12/18. No update since then. My last order, of ATB Quarters, was not correct. One roll was missing, but had four sets of proof Presidential dollars that I did not order. I am wondering what might be in this package. It seems like the mint has different locations they are shipping from. Mine are starting in Mississippi. Before I would get packages from Indiana. Could the problems we are seeing here, where some are getting orders shipped and some not, have something to do with what location they are being shipped from?

Well, that makes one feel a bit warm and fuzzy about the whole thing, but who knows if there is any truth to it, or if the author even has the clout to make such a promise if the shipping error causes the promised orders to surpass the limits placed on the product. If anyone less than the director of the mint made that promise, it's probably not worth spit when it comes to exceeding the preset product limit. Either that, or they will make up the discrepancy by sending out other people's rejects that got sent back, when they run out of freshly minted sets.

I complained about the mint allowing orders over their own preset limit of 5. I sent them auction links showing orders over 5 in one box, indicating a single address shipment they let go out.
I am anxious to see what excuse they give for this...
Like any other govt agency, when you send them a complaint, it is always best to forward the complaint to your elected representatives, AND to let the agency you are complaining to know that you are doing that. I did so here, as I always do, and that usually (always in my experience) gets a prompt and detailed response. We'll see...

Quote: I've got 16 being graded now...fingers crossed I got my NGC graded coins back a short time ago. I had picked out 16 that looked decent out of my 30 day 1 ordered sets... 1-SP68 15-SP69's not bad....

The set would have to be REALLY messed up for me to return it...the raw sets are now selling for nearly 3x issue price....I had 14 (out of 30) that I didn't send in for grading but none of them has any major issues. Very nice sets....
I don't get why there would be that many returns.

I know... it's crazy how these sets have taken off on ebay. Yes the raw sets are selling for $40+, but the single graded coins are bring in very high premiums too.

I got a response from the Mint on their breeching of the 5 set limit. I have no idea what they mean by "dealer" in the singular. I sent them links to many auctions/pics with mint packages of well over 5 sets, unopened. I have no idea if these people are "dealer(s)" or not. I guess the Mint didn't bother to look at the links, and this is some sort of form response they give whenever limits are questioned. ? I dunno... Seems to me like this is summarized as "You cannot prove we exceeded our limit." Quote: We understand that you are inquiring about why a certain retailer was able to purchase the American $1 Coin and Currency Set in a large quantity. This particular item has a house hold order limit of 5, please note, on behalf of our Bulk Purchase Program, this item is not listed to be bought in large quantities, therefore we cannot guarantee that this coins dealer you are referring to, purchased these coins from the United States Mint.

In case anyone looks for a reasonably priced set - here is one seller who is trying to get rid of them I think by charging only $30 incl. delivery: http://www.ebay.com/itm/301451222826There are currently 15 available after the seller sold at a total of 383 sets previously: http://www.ebay.com/csc/jacks_not_d...op=13&_rdc=1Time will tell if $30 is a bargain or outrageous - personally, I think it's cheap at the moment. Regarding everyone complaining about those who ordered more than 5 sets before the household limit was in place: a) these sets were available for everyone to purchase with no household limit in place b) please direct your criticism at the US Mint, not at those who bought more than 5
