Why not just buy bars. The premium is much lower than junk silver and the buy/sell spread is also smaller. You can buy bars for as low as $0.75 over spot, I know because I bought some today.

I think buying rounds may be the better route for now. Junk silver is going for more right now on the bay and it will continue until people stop paying the sellers such a high premium. Its good for the sellers but not the small investor.

Same here in the UK. Nobody is selling that made the mistake of buying during the boom for negative equity reasons which leaves a very dry market right now. I was buying for 10% above spot and flipping them faster than I could get em 15 months ago, now I struggle to get anything locally. Sadly a lot of coins and bullion wont see the light of day because of the " I'd rather sit on it " than take a loss mentality, which is actually a 100% loss as the price will never reach in their lifetime the level at which they bought. Oh well it was good while it lasted.

I'm seeing a large variance at places in town. Junk dimes are going between 1.35 and 1.80 per coin. The guys with the higher prices seem to be just piling it up.

Locally junk is $15.00 per $1 FV & readily available. Maybe I should buy it up & sell online as I'm seeing prices like $1538.00 for $100 which is $0.38 cents more than buying in dollar increments @ the LCS.

$15 per $1 FV is almost $1 more than what's avail online.

It's 14X currently at my favorite LCS but some other dealers in town are selling 90% from 14X to 15.6X.

Silver is what it is. If you are comparing it to fiat currency, and it takes more fiat than previously to get some, then the fiat is worth less as a trade unit than before. Today's high premiums won't mean diddly when there isn't anything shiny left to buy.
Stocking up on gold and silver bars, rounds, and coins is what we stackers do, but we also need something fractional for trade units. That's the role of 90% as I see it. The premiums on 90% are far more attractive than the premiums on fractional bullion. I could be wrong.

I agree that 90% is in high demand. I frequent 2 LCS and, even when I'm not buying, I like to keep tabs on their prices via their online price pages. Both are showing about $2.5 /oz premium ($14 /$fv, with a spot of $17) on junk silver. This is compared to premiums of $1.2/oz and $2.2/oz on rounds and $3.25/oz and $4/oz on ASE's at these 2 shops. One of these LCS is out of stock on junk silver, so buyers can pay and come back a couple weeks later to pick up their coins. The other LCS is nearly out when I stopped in this past weekend and was down to using Barber's for anyone that wanted 90%. I kind of like this, though. They seem a little more worn than washington's, rosies and kennedy's, but I'm sucker for older coins that I don't see that often.

I think you can get some in 14-15x face value. That's decently reasonable. There is a guy I know selling 4 rolls of Barber quarters for 160 a piece.

I love Barber quarters and would love to buy higher grades. Commons are pretty slick. Regular 90% is 14.5 times face online any quantity.
