http://www.ebay.com/itm/1797-bust-d...em2c910e305dSeller admits that the coin is a counterfeit, but, he lists it for sale anyway. Not sure if he doesn't realize it is a crime to knowingly sell an unmarked counterfeit or not. A side note.....some dope is willing to pay over $40 for a coin they know is fake is ridiculous. Perhaps they're unaware they can buy them all day long for under $10.

I'm beginning to think this type of activity is totally legal on ebay.

The final price smells fishy to me. There isn't even such a thing as a 8 and 7 star garment of that coin. It is fake on top of fake. I must say...eBay has no responsibility here. The seller says I is fake, the coin presented never really assisted and yet someone was willing to toss $8200 at it. Either something fishy with the bidding or a fool. Either way ebay can't stop that.

Here is an interesting question though. Being that the type/variant/style of this coin never actually existed, does it need to say copy? It isn't copying anything!

ebay is at fault. The coin was reported as being an obvious counterfeit, but, ebay chose to do nothing about it. ebay recently got rid of the Trust and Safety board and the ccw. ebay has decided to let the crooks do anything they want on ebay.

That type did exist. It was minted from 1795 to 1798. So, to answer your question, it should have had 'copy' on it.

Some dumb bell paid over $8,000 for it! Gosh, do people even read descriptions any more?

"...eBay has no responsibility here." Except to enforce the rule that replicas and copies and counterfeits are not allowed. "The seller says I is fake," Meaning he is openly breaking their rules and still they are not taking action enforcing them and their pledge of keeping ebay counterfeit/replica/copy free for their users. "Either something fishy with the bidding or a fool." agreed, I'm personally leaning towards fishy bidding myself. " Either way ebay can't stop that" If they enforced the rules designed to protect people from situations/things like that they could.

This appears to be a case of "vigilante" bidders intentionally torpedoing a shady auction by bidding it up to ridiculous amounts and having no intention of paying.

The top two bidders have the look of disposable accounts.
