Quote: I think these will be cheap plastic cars as you say, and ya those transporters seemed very "cheaply Made" but what isn't these days, everything is made in china as cheaply as possible to maximum profits. Sad but true but it is the way of the world now. low quality plastic throwaway junk. My thoughts exactly. However, there are a lot of pop culture fans with disposable income who are willing to pay top dollar. Demand dictates price. I just made a profit of $110 on the cheap plastic transporter, so keep them coming!

couple thoughts here- But first, helllloo Pocket Change 50 nice to see you back!! Anyways, I am not sure what these mints are doing with such a wide variety of coins.... like all the cartoon coins. But.. one thing is clear they are trying all sorts of gimmicks you could say and trying coins that are part of "popular pop culture". Besides Back to the Future, we now are seeing Star Wars coins, how about the Dr Who series of coins. which the NZ Mint is still sitting on lol.... and on and on. Then you have all these other exotic type finishes, which seem to be really going over the top. Clearly there is wayyyy to much supply of coins then there are collectors to absorb this demand. Prices drop hard years later as we all know. Just an an example tho from today, I was reminded about the Dr Who gold coin from the NZ mint. Talking USD here, that coin even tho it has very limited mintage, was going for 2500 dollars. I few dealers has this coin for a below that, I believe I remember seeing 2200-2300 dollars... but at a recent auction on ebay, I saw one for for about a tad over 2000. Talk about taking a bath on the secondary market. We could go on and on with these sort of examples. Which leads me to another point. Is the reason these mints are pushing these pop culture coins and with gimmicks with the non traditional wooden box or velvet box as an example.. are they doing this because they are trying to lure in or reach another age demographic? Are they trying to skew younger age group? Finally, I agree with your comment Silveroid... the Back To The Future coins still have that "imprint" style on the coin that they use for other coins, I dunno why but it reminds me a screen print lol

Hi Yup,I always enjoy your insightful posts. I remember the talk re:Dr Who coins, they were the first foray into pop culture coins. A few widely spaced are unique and interesting. The world mints have done pop culture to death, where its become boring and an every day occurrence! Example this years Superman coins, no excitement or discussion compared to 2013!! Like you I'm making my list & will wait for the discount. This way I will be able to buy twice as much. Along with deciding if I really desire the coin. When I first became serious into the hobby I never bought mint direct until mid 2013. I was always looking for best price. Any guesses how long the world mints will continue down the current path of releases. It seems when 1 mint has a popular idea, others soon follow flooding market. An example is rimless, antiqued God themed coins. Also the mints are going too far with adding stuff to coins, example jade, venetian glass, new type glass with silver dust. I'm referring to 2015 RCM coins. I think mints are grasping at straws as they vie for dollars in the global market place. It would be interesting to know how internet purchasing, or the global economy has impacted how mints decide on what types of coins to produce, or any other factors like pricing or mintage.

As expected, the supply is dries up every moment everywhere for "Back to the Future" coins. Yes, they didn't become more attractive, but the $$$ that possible to get, by reselling them, potentially go up. And for the profit possible to get more real coins.

Quote: What "Real Coins" are you referring too? Bullion maybe Yes, this not exactly correct. The "Real Coins" are these, which have more commemorative significance, or more attractive theme (let's say the First nations art commemorates nothing, but with the attractive design it more "real" than the "movie" coin). And usually they drop in value fast Btw, there are also "real coins for serious collectors" - but this totally another league.

Update: Official video of the DeLorian case issued, thanks to other forum for uploading! And the wheels, which probably do not spin, possible to flip them. If the car does the sounds, it's really playable ( forget about coin, just meh).
Anyway, it has overwhelming success, people buy quantities and resell good. Do not hesitate, secure asap as many as possible. They go good. And with the COA number, like 1985 or 2015 - it will be hit!.

Those that received the coins earliest will make some money but those that list later will be in for a rude awakening. People are buying 5,10 or more to flip are going to flood the market, dropping the value of the coin pretty rapidly. We see this time and and time again and I expect this is will be case again, especially with he high mintage of 7500. And comparing this release to the Kirk/Enterprise transporter set is way off the mark since the transporter set had mintage of only 1500.

As much as some of us not liking the new wave of coins, the mints are businesses and they have to branch out for new customers. At the end of the day, they need to find way to make money. For example, if RCM didn't do the $20 for $20, I wouldn't have follow the hobbies. Granted that I no longer interest in the $x for $x series, it did get me into collecting and I too branch out to various type of coins from various mints. Let put it this way, given a choice of buying either a coin with similar mintage of 7500 from RCM that come with a clamshell box for $99.95 or a coin from Perth Mint with a toy car for $120AUd, which one would you buy? There's also a new trend with Dealers commissioning their own coins and some even mint their own coins. So there are choices so as a collector and consumer, just buy what you like.
