Man... the other day I was up on ebay and I thought Silvertowne had already cleared out their Family at Rest bison coins for around low 40s. now I see dealers selling them STILL, but now at 40 bucks on the head, heck you can buy a whole set of the same coin, graded for less than that per coin.if you buy a lot of 5, you can get them for 37 dollars a piece! If you buy 10 of them, you can get them for 32 dollars a piece! Want them graded? Get 5 slabs at PF70 for only 63 dollars a piece!! Mannnnnnnnn was that coin a bust for what!! I feel bad for everyone who was buying 70s and paying 3 times this amount, one will never get that amount back unless PMs go back to that area where was bought in...

Does this mean one should stay away from commissioned coins? I'm glad I've paid attention to Yup's posts, as I've saved a ton of money. I wonder who are the collectors buying mint direct? Don't they ever read forums or look at secondary prices?
For the time being I'm sticking with Commems circulation coins to satisfy the collector in me. Luckily there has been some nice circulation coins! I need to get a better handle on what's happening with silver prices. Plus I have a large collection anyway. It's too bad I'm not starting now, with all the deals. However, one wonders are prices going to go lower in next yr or two. A person can't continue to throw good money after bad! The mint should only be charging 3X spot. Silver would need to be near $100 spot, before a person could break even on coins at today's prices. I doubt this will ever happen.

"Bison: The Family at the rest" was the coin for me to get non-predator and complete my personal Animal Set (I have said "Good Bye" to 2013 O Canada and will keep mine), so...should I wait a year to get it cheaper? This would be very smart, but after a year I will not be interested.... For me, except the Lunar Zodiac it "get it now or never"...i will buy extremely limited amount of coins cause do not feel attraction to have a coin, that skipped over it in the past. **The Beaver **Bateman's Bull Moose **Canada Lynx **Eagle: Return from the Hunt **Bison: The Family at the Rest All of them lost their value and sells for less. But I have already my set and do not care.

The biggest problems with the RCM allowing commissioned coins is exactly what Silvertowne is doing selling a batch of graded coins for huge profits and when it crap outs they can fire sale the remaining units. It basically destroys the rest of the future releases and it creates a false sellout, now everyone knows better.

2015 Gold Superman Coin:Only 2h 30 min remains till end of the auction - very bad timing - and the current bid on CAD 297 , shipping from Barntford, Ontario. Please put your bids on it, you probably will get it for low: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/191723927062...34.S1.R1.TR8

"cheap" will not be.

@ silveriod, a very stunning collection in the case and a grand idea. I'd like to get some wooden cases at a reasonable price to create my own sets too. It's fantastic when members take time to show off the coins, as no one can afford every release! It gives a chance to see the the real coins instead of drawings.
I'm amazed the LT gold coin is still available at the mint! What does this say about pop culture releases and their future? It used to be the golds sold out fast and even increased. Now look at the auction on the current Superman gold, no increase in price, even though the image is nice. Is this the last yr for superman releases?

The mint over did the superman issues, they should of stuck with the 75th anniversary issue. I wonder if the mint will still be pumping out as many releases in 3 yrs. It was exciting back in 2012 to see the next issues. Now it barely generates a discussion. It seems most people have become more discerning, waiting to find the coin at a discount or skipping it all together. I know I've switched to circulation commems and pre 1967 coins. Ï do keep up with some X for X coins. I figure when I tire of them, they can be exchanged at the bank. I also get the odd bullion coin. I'm tired of buying mint direct only to find the issue price falling within months. Its like I keep sticking my hand in the fire repeatedly. Its not the actions of an intelligent and sane person. Hence the change in focus. I don't get why the mint has reduced circulation coins to 1 pack from 3. Even a rep doesn't help. These are circulation coins and would be cheaper to mail multi packs. Speaking of the RCM, there's an ebay seller named Royal Canadian Mint, they've sold over 1300 $20 4 $20 superman coins and over 1100 of the Bugs Bunny coins. Anyone know if the mint has started selling on ebay. The listing is in US funds and to the states. I find this interesting. I accidently found it buy looking at CCF hot Canadian coins.

how does the Canadian mint even stay in business? they constantly release over priced, mediocre coins. As for the x for x coins, I saw an article a month or so ago where a man took some of the coins to a bank in Ontario and the bank refused to exchange the coins. I'm not sure if that is true or not, but if it is then those coins are only worth spot at best, too many have been minted.

@pocket change 50 I know... this is getting crazy. It personally kills my appetite for coins that I want. As Silveroid said and he has said many times, once you start waiting, unless you REALLY want it, you lose interest fast. I lost total interest in the Family At Rest as a result of the prices as I have no clue now whats the "real" price. Every time I turn around, I see it go lower. I do like the design and theme of this coin. What has turned me against it is the falling over supply. Again I go back to my personal rules in collecting coins- 1- Stay away from dealer commissions coins even if they are done jointly with a well known mint, they will be in the majority of the time a bust. 2- Do not and resist the urge to buy coins that are dropping in price and are getting slashed by dealers, the bottom is not in and hard to say where it goes. I cite as examples past and present dealers such as Silvertowne with their Bison coins and the 2015 Scrooge McDuck silver coin being sold by Aquacoins... who has engaged in a slashing of prices with another dealer simultaneously on ebay. It is clear. Buy only what you like and count on taking a loss should you ever have to sell. The only coins you can count on holding their "value" are coins that sell higher on the secondary market and continue to climb. These coins are few and many cases will not interest your collection themes. I do believe the various mints, whether they are government or private are flying under the radar so to speak because coins are an impulse item and only the savvy experienced collector catches on that coins drop in price from their initial price, despite being "gold" or "silver" and "rare". which leads me to my last point... LOW MINTAGE NUMBERS MEAN NOTHING
let that thought be impressed in ones mind. Low mintage means nothing if there is zero demand. I have cataloged countless coins with low mintage numbers of several hundreds and they are huge busts in the secondary market, even when they are graded.
