Hi, I'm a new member here, and wanted to show you one of my recent acquisitions: Israel 1978 10 Agorot overstruck on a struck Canadian 5-cent nickel coin. Traces of the underlying design show through clearly, the beaver's tail and the log it's standing on, the maple leaf with the writing "5 cents", the legend "Canada", and the date. On the other side, traces of "Elizabeth", and the denticles on the perimeter. Canada has struck coins for Israel during the 1970s and 80s, so this is how this error (and others) were made possible. I've seen a few other examples of Canada/Israel mixups such as this one, but this is my favorite. That's how a normal 1978 Israel 10 Agorot looks like (and I'm sure you all know what a Canadian nickel looks like ).

Cool, how would this occur, did the RCM mint coins for Israel?

Thanks for sharing offcenter and welcome to the forum. I too like Canadian/Israel error combos. Very nice dual country double denomination!

It could happen as easy as a coin on the mint floor tossed into a bin or simply one missed in the millions made. Thanks for sharing!

Cool! They are very similar diameters...I could see how a 5c got back into the press.

Hi Smallcentguy, I'm familiar with that ebay auction. The coin in that auction was first purchased by Fred Weinberg (notable U.S. error coin dealer) from the son of a late Tel Aviv Mint employee, together with a large batch of other error coins. It was put for auction on ebay with 0.99$ start, no reserve, and reached about $800 in spirited bidding. The buyer immediately turned around and posted it again for sale, this time with $4500 start. I think this is highly off-base, and evidently it has been on sale at this price for over a year now with no takers.

Those examples are outstanding. Thank you both for sharing. Like the texture of the Cdn/Barb 6 cent coin @Zonad. to our new members.
