Now, the REAL waiting begins and does not end for another ~24 days! Hope it does well....at least better than the 7200$(?) the "local" dealer offered you! We shall see!

This thread was the best story I have read in a long time.

DR, congrats to you sir. I would love to call heritage and tell whomever treated you with such abrupt and curt tone that they are the losers here.

Allranger, you make me want to take a vacation to the badlands of Boise. Is it really that abandoned and creepy/historic? I grew up in the Lower Hudson Valley Region of NY along the water. I had places like the Old Dutch Church and revolutionary war solider grave sites in my backyard but nothing like you described earlier in the thread. It sounds so awesome.

Westernsky, what a call on the eventual grade.

What a story this is and I cannot wait to see how it ends next month!

Thanks DSFreeWorld! I'm sure Heritage is kicking themselves. Side note: Ian from Great Collections was featured on Larry King a little while back! That's awesome! Good for him!

This is a really good opportunity for me to learn about auctions! By subscribing to this thread I will follow the price of the coin and have a chance to see the bidding habits of different people, as well as how auctions work in general.

By the way, is there a science behind why to set the opening bid at $4000 instead of something else?

...I'll offer a numerical suggestion.

Dave was going to do some research on this before DrTones shot out his $ 4k reserve figure.

It seems logical that greed, hope, fear, research and/or basic complacency would probably factor in at some point during the creation of most folk's decision making process on most any item being auctioned off.

I would still be very interested, however, in hearing thoughts about justifications behind establishing these types of figures especially for this specific KM-114 type coin or on any coin of this scale.

This coin will go for at least $7,000. I will be bidding that much on it at some point over the next few days, once I ensure that my bank account has the necessary funds.
