mdpmedia Pillar of the Community United States 3546 Posts	Posted 01/07/2015 03:18 am Hi, I WAS going to go out on a limb and say that the coin displayed a 'doubled die exhibiting Machine Doubling which is more common than one realizes' (UNTIL I saw coop's comments). I based my guess on: 1) double die: The 'M' in AMERICA shows notching without having the width of the device being cut away. 2) Machine Doubling: 'T' in STATES clearly exhibits the device being cut away with the step-down presence A. I do now agree with coop because of the consistent shelf-like features all over but I would like some help with an explanation of what happened on the 'M' referred to above in my pre-coop opinion? B. Also coop, could you post a photo of a coin clearly showing both hub doubling along with MD, an attainable anomaly indicated in coppercoins thread, ' Machine Doubling versus Hub doubling'? thx Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/07/2015 11:54 am The classic 1969-S DDO that Ken Potter posted on his site, says it all: Note the lower image on the tops of the date. (Arrows) The 1968-1972 coins did have a lot machine damage on them. I found a cent once, that the whole left side of the reverse was machine damaged, the the right side was a doubled die. The right side not showing any machine damage. I keep looking to see if I can find images. (I've got over 3500 images on my server.) Report this Post to the Staff

If this is the case, I can then stop focusing in on these areas and wasting my time going forward ref the 69s lhc. Report this Post to the Staff

Machine damage can affect one or all devices. Just a few examples were found of the 1969S-1DO-001. But I still check for them.
