Attribution Confirmation Wanted, Byzantine

Medieval Pillar of the Community 3772 Posts	Posted 01/18/2015 04:52 am Here my last cleaning effort: By what I can see from Wildwinds, I assume it is Sear#1922 from Alexius I. Unfortunately cannot find my copy of Sear's book (hopefully not lost), so I cannot check in the neighbourhood. My coin is ~15mm, so is my assumption right? Other coins seem to confirm that the portrait is Alexius I (eg Sear#1930) and this is the only type with Christ seated on the obverse I can find. Any comment welcome. Report this Post to the Staff

Bensi New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 05/31/2015 11:14 pm It is a rarer byzantine Tetarteron after the coin reform of Alexius I, It was minted in Constantinople and it will have a small amount of silver ( about 3%). The coins from the city are much harder to find than the coins minted at other mints. I have three in my collection now ,I have been collecting them for about 15 years, they come to market only once or twice a year. I am new to this board but I specialize in this denomination.
