Perhaps I should make the next thread "How Fast Can We Get to 1492?" instead?

@jbuck, I still have nothing. Have been distracted lately from coins that are 500 to 1000 years older than 1491 AD. You can blame CCF for this diversion.

I assume this thread is still open for 1492s, until the first 1491 is posted? Anyway, Netherlands/Gelderland 1492 double briquet/vuurijzer (Frey 391, Levinson III-213): A crummy example, but at least the all-important date is clear. I wonder how many more 1492s we'll see before a 1491 shows up?

@pepactonius, you had me going for a second there--I thought you had picked up a 1491! Yours is nice, just not the date which we need.

Quote: I assume this thread is still open for 1492s, until the first 1491 is posted? You are correct! And very nice! This means that the third edition got further than the first two, even if it did not advance the year. Quote:@pepactonius, you had me going for a second there--I thought you had picked up a 1491! My heart skipped a beat when I saw this listing: https://www.ma-shops.com/koci/item....9090&lang=enToo bad the seller has it listed wrong (that numeral that kinda looks like our number 1 or perhaps more like a 7 is actually a medieval number 5). The search goes on...

I'm still working on my 16th century coverage (1517, 1521, 1532, 1555, 1556, 1557, 1566, 1568, 1592, 1597, 1599, 1600, and I forgot what the Indian coin's date was but 1554 sounds likely), but so far I wasn't able to find any remotely affordable dated coins from the 15th century.
I'm considering starting my own personal How Far Back Can I Go thread when 2018 comes in - I already have a 2018 coin, as well as, apparently, every single year from there all the way back to 1860 (don't yet seem to have anything from 1859 though).

We keep posting, we keep getting excited. Eventually we will get used to this and then that 1491 will just sneak on in.
