I have a 1917 Liberty Dime. I am a novice but what I have read about mints, this coin was minted at S, D and Philadelphia. However, the dime I have seems to have a mark shaped like a W . Is this possible? Thanks for any help/advice.

That would actually be AW for Adolph Weinman, the designer's initials.
For the mintmark, look on the reverse here:


1917-Liberty-Dime-Mint-Mark

If there's nothing there, it's a Philadelphia coin.

impossible, the mm on your coin was probably damaged.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I can see the WA and there is no mark for the mint, as you indicated.
