Quote:Hard to imagine the Mint willingly giving up the revenue source that the Kennedy half represents. My bet is that this debate will still be ongoing when the Kennedy half special 100-year anniversary coin set is released.

jbuck, Not only do we need to get rid of the $1 note, so that the $1 coin makes sense, but, we need to get rid of the cent, nickel and $2 note, so that the half, and a $2 coin make sense.

Speaking of redesigning the half, though, I wonder if, since they did not redesign the Kennedy half for the coin's 50th anniversary, if they are planning a redesign of the half in 2017, because, if memory serves me correctly, wouldn't 2017 be John F. Kennedy's 100th birthday? The half and the dime really do need a redesign already, as all other coins got their redesign, including the dollar coin, even though that are not being minted for general circulation (I hope the DCA successfully changes that, by killing the $1 note, as far as circulation of the dollar coin goes) The DCA lobbyist even told me that it is possible that the half could make a comeback, but, not until the $1 note is eliminated, but I still don't understand how, unless, maybe the DCA will listen to my suggestion to push vendors and self checkout comanies to upgrade for halves, when they do for $1 coins. Same with the $2 bill, but as I said, we believe it should be a $2 coin instead of a redesigned $2 note. I'm sure you agree with the $2 coin, right jbuck?

I have long said that 2017 would be a good year for a Kennedy Commemorative Silver Dollar and/or Kennedy half dollar makeover. I would like to see both. The Half Dollar could make a comeback if the cent and nickel are eliminated and the quarter is allowed to ride into the sunset at the ATB program end. Maybe.

I think all these different quarter designs need to be ended and resume some sort of long term regular design. Same goes for dollar coins...though of course w/o the edge lettering.

Come on guys, be a good sport! Don't you want your grandchildren to live to see the half become the first coin in US history where the NIFC population outnumbers the total circulating population?

That makes getting rid of the nickel a lot easier. Quote: Come on guys, be a good sport! I am good with either, but in another post I said "Kill the quarter after Round 1 of the ATB program ends (Round 2 can be NIFC)."In my opinion, the ATB is de facto NIFC now. I never see them in change and end up buying the circulating set from the mint at the end of each year.

It remains to be seen whether a 2nd round of ATB Quarters will be issued. Hard to imagine what life/numismatics will be like in 15 years but it's a good bet that there will be little to no change in the cent, nickel, quarter, dollar coin, and dollar bill before then.

I've saved more than a roll of Acadia-D's just from pocket change received (since 2012), I have found almost a whole rolls' worth of Philadelphia Mint ATB Quarters in change since 2012, and I've been getting so many Arches-D's in change, I just respend them all now...

I would be fine with the half retiring completely. I do collect them, but the actual usefulness of the coin itself is very limited.
I wouldn't want it redesigned, if they do anything with it; just end it.
